Four-star point guard Jaxson Davis has narrowed his recruitment to six schools, leaving Northwestern out of the mix. The Illinois native and top-50 prospect averaged 13.3 points and 5.0 assists on the EYBL circuit while drawing offers from several Power Four programs.
Northwestern will no longer be in the running for one of Illinois' top high school basketball prospects.
Four-star point guard Jaxson Davis has narrowed his recruitment to six schools, according to Rivals, with Creighton, Iowa, Marquette, Michigan State, Minnesota and Ohio State making the cut. Northwestern was among the programs left off Davis' final list after previously extending him a scholarship offer.
The 6-foot-1 guard, originally from Gurnee, Illinois, now plays at Monarch Academy in Kansas and is regarded as one of the top point guards in the 2027 recruiting class. Davis is currently ranked as the No. 35 overall prospect nationally and the No. 10 point guard in the class.
His recruitment has been fueled by strong performances on the EYBL circuit.
Across 18 games, Davis averaged 13.3 points, 5.7 rebounds and 5.0 assists while shooting 46.8% from the field and 44.2% (53-for-120) from 3-point range. He also ranked No. 1 in assists per game (6.7), No. 7 in efficiency and No. 9 in performance index rating during the EYBL regular season.
For Northwestern, missing out on Davis is a disappointing result on the recruiting trail.
As one of the top prospects to emerge from Illinois in the 2027 class, Davis represented the type of in-state talent Northwestern hopes to keep close. His combination of scoring ability, court vision and playmaking would have made him an intriguing fit in Chris Collins' system.
Retaining top in-state talent has become increasingly important as Northwestern continues building momentum on the recruiting trail.
The Wildcats have made significant strides in recruiting over the past several years, helped by the program's recent success and reputation for player development. Former Wildcats such as Nick Martinelli and Brooks Barnhizer have gone on to earn NBA opportunities, giving Northwestern another selling point when pursuing highly regarded recruits.
Although Davis will continue his recruitment elsewhere, Northwestern's coaching staff is expected to remain active in the 2027 class. Recruiting cycles often change quickly, and with more than a year before most prospects make their final decisions, the Wildcats will continue pursuing players who fit the program's long-term vision.
