The Northwestern Wildcats' basketball program is embracing the new NIL (Name, Image and Likeness) era of college basketball and it's starting to pay off on the recruiting trail in myriad ways.
The Wildcats got pledges from eight transfers and two high schoolers this past offseason, helping to infuse the roster with talent ahead of the 2026-27 season.
Now, coach Chris Collins and his staff are focused on adding additional prospects to the fold for the 2027 cycle, including a potential gem from the Class of 2027, a 6-foot-5 shooting guard who trimmed his list of school choices to six on Monday.
The Wildcats made the cut, adding to excitement over his eventual announcement date.
Profit Cuts List to Six Schools
Jeremiah Profit, a 180-pound shooting guard from Temecula, Calif., included Northwestern on his updated list of school choices alongside five familiar Division-I college hoops programs, according to Joe Tipton via Rivals.com.
His new list includes the Boston College Golden Eagles, Creighton Blue Jays, St. Mary's Gaels, Stanford Cardinal, Arizona State Sun Devils and Collins' Wildcats.
Profit visited the Blue Jays on 16 and the Cardinal on July 23.
He is scheduled to visit the Wildcats on Sept. 19 and is ranked as the 71st best recruit in the nation according to On3.com.
Profit is a priority target of Collins and his staff, one of three four-star prospects the Wildcats are currently interested in, and the one believed to have the most mutual interest.
Northwestern Still Looking for First 2027 Pledge
Profit could become the Wildcats' first Class of 2027 pledge if he gives his word to coach Collins and his program next month.
Thus far, the Wildcats have offered 16 players among the class including five combo guards, three point guards, three small forwards, two shooting guards and one center.
The Rancho Christian High School star has been on college basketball teams' radar screen for over five years running, exhibiting exciting skills and athleticism from an early age.
Now heading into his senior season at Rancho Christian, the highlight tape speaks for itself: Profit is a high level talent with a deft array of moves and an NBA frame.
Profit has a high release point on his jump shot and is adept at finding angles to get downhill on his drives to the basket.
He finishes well on floaters and pull-up jump shots with range extending out beyond the three-point line.
With undeniable two-way potential as a scorer and defender, Profit could be one of the biggest recruits in Wildcats history.
Expect the full-court press by the time Sept. 19 rolls around for Profit's visit to Evanston, Ill., as Collins and his staff go all-out to land what could be a program changing player.
