Griffin Wilde has already established himself as one of the most important pieces of the Northwestern offense, but the senior receiver believes Chip Kelly's new system can help take his game to another level.

Wilde was asked about the transition to Kelly's offense and what has been different from a wide receiver's perspective.

For him, it starts with the concepts.

"Just the concepts, everything opened up," Wilde said.

Wilde believes Kelly gives his players plenty of opportunities to maximize their potential and put themselves in positions to succeed.

"Coach Kelly does everything to give you a lot, to give you your fullest potential," Wilde said. "He's a really smart guy and he's going to put you in a position to succeed."

That could be particularly important for Wilde as he enters a season with some of the highest expectations of his college career.

Wilde broke out at Northwestern in 2025 after transferring from South Dakota. He finished the season with 71 receptions for 880 yards and eight touchdowns, quickly becoming one of the Wildcats' most reliable offensive weapons.

His journey to that point was not always easy. Wilde admitted that his confidence was low when he first arrived at Northwestern and had to adjust to the jump in competition from South Dakota State to the Big Ten.

Now, he feels differently. Wilde said he has learned that he can play at this level and that he belongs in the Big Ten.

That confidence could be one of the biggest factors in his development heading into 2026. Rather than being satisfied with what he accomplished last season, Wilde's goal is to continue improving.

The mindset is simple: keep climbing and keep growing as a player.

That mentality will be tested in a new offensive system, but Wilde appears excited about what Kelly can do with the Wildcats' personnel.

One of the biggest storylines surrounding Northwestern's offense will be the potential connection between Wilde and Aidan Chiles. Chiles is still competing for the starting quarterback job, but Wilde has already seen what the Michigan State transfer can bring to the offense.

The first thing that stands out is Chiles' arm talent.

Wilde also praised Chiles' ability to create when a play breaks down, particularly his ability to escape the pocket and still make an accurate throw downfield.

That kind of quarterback play could create even more opportunities for a receiver like Wilde.

If Chiles wins the starting job and can develop chemistry with Wilde throughout camp, Northwestern could have one of the more intriguing quarterback-receiver combinations in the Big Ten.

Wilde has already proven he can produce at this level. Now he has an opportunity to do it in an offense designed by one of college football's most accomplished offensive minds.

Wilde has also continued to collect preseason recognition heading into the season, including a spot on the Biletnikoff Award Watch List and the 2027 Senior Bowl Top 300 list.

Those honors reflect the expectations surrounding him entering his senior season. The challenge now is turning that recognition into production.

If Wilde can build on his 880-yard, eight-touchdown campaign, continue developing his chemistry with Chiles and take advantage of the opportunities Kelly's system creates, he could become an even bigger part of Northwestern's offensive turnaround.

For a player who once questioned whether he belonged at the Big Ten level, Wilde now enters the season believing he can compete with anyone.

And with Kelly creating a new system around him, Wilde has another opportunity to prove just how high his ceiling can be.
