Despite a season-ending injury, Schrauth's dominant seven-game stretch secured him an All-American nod, showcasing elite pass blocking and improved run game impact.
Notre Dame offensive lineman Billy Schrauth has been named a second team All-American by the American Football Coaches Association. Schrauth becomes the first Notre Dame lineman to earn an All-American honor this offseason.
The honor is impressive for Schrauth when you consider he missed the last five games of the regular season. Prior to the injury he suffered against USC, Schrauth was playing outstanding football for Notre Dame, and the game against the Trojans was him at his best. Schrauth was bullying defenders in the run game and was a lock down pass protector, but a knee injury in that game prematurely ended his season. That performance in the first seven games of the season was obviously enough to impress the AFCA All-America voters.
Schrauth was an elite pass blocker all season, giving up just two pressures in the seven games he played, according to Pro Football Focus. Neither of those pressures resulted in hits or sacks on the quarterback. Over the last two seasons, Schrauth has allowed just 10 total pressures and just one sack in 19 games played (PFF). His pass blocking has been a strength of his from the moment he stepped into the starting lineup.
What made Schrauth impactful in 2025 is that his run blocking and overall consistency also improved. Schrauth was a force in the run game for the Irish this season, showing the ability to get very good movement at the point of attack. He was also a more consistent blocker, limiting the missed assignments and teaming with Anthonie Knapp to make the left side of the line a focal point of the Notre Dame run game.
Schrauth has started 22 games for Notre Dame and the Irish run game has flourished in those starts. Notre Dame has averaged 205.8 yards per game and 5.6 yards per carry in games where Schrauth was a starter at guard. He's started at both right guard and left guard during his career, but all of his starts in 2025 were on the left side.
Schrauth came to Notre Dame as a top recruit and committed to Notre Dame after Marcus Freeman was named head coach. The Wisconsin native ranked as a Top 100 player nationally according to On3 and Rivals. Landing him over Ohio State and Michigan was one of the coups of the 2022 recruiting class. He first stepped into the lineup late in 2023 and then earned a full-time role in 2024.
Running back Jeremiyah Love and cornerback Leonard Moore were also named to the AFCA All-America team, with both of those Irish stars earning first-team honors.
