Notre Dame hosted a number of talented defensive back recruits this weekend to watch the Irish take on Texas A&M. The result didn't go in favor of the Irish, but that didn't stop the staff from making a strong impression on the recruits in town, which included talented cornerback Ace Alston.
The Cincinnati (Ohio) Anderson star cornerback has already built a strong relationship with Notre Dame secondary coach Mike Mickens, but he was looking forward to continuing that connection and experience the game day atmosphere.
"I was excited to see the great atmosphere” Alston told Irish Breakdown. “I knew it was going to be a great game. They played a great game the last time. The atmosphere was electric, one of the best game day environments I’ve been on.
“The coaches have been showing me a lot of love,” Alston continued. “I couldn't wait to get there and talk to the coaches and watch them work with the players. I have a great relationship with Coach Mickens and I know that he can help me develop and reach my on-field goals."
Alston had a great time connecting with the other recruits on the field before the game and in the stands during the game. He got a chance to watch the defense and the trust they have in the defensive backs to play man. That’s something he wants to do on the next level.
“I like the defense,” Alston declared. “I like playing man and that I can see myself in the defensive system. Leonard Moore is a dog and that’s how I love to play.”
The 121st-ranked player according to Rivals, has helped his Raptors’ squad to a 4-0 record with a dominant defense giving up 9.3 points per game. He’s played in three games tallying 9 tackles, 2 pass breakups and one interception.
“The season is going great,” Alston said. “We’re 4-0. I have one interception so far, but they’re not coming my way for real.
He currently holds offers from programs like Tennessee, Ohio State, Michigan, Oregon, USC, LSU, Texas A&M and Illinois among a host of others.
