Quarterback Blake Hebert and defensive back Dallas Golden join Notre Dame’s spring injured list.
Spring football practice is heading into its final week for Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish began the spring with a laundry list of players, 11 to be exact, who were out for the entirety of the spring. Others like linebacker Drayk Bowen and running back Aneyas Williams have been limited with minor injuries.
Williams and Bowen were both still limited during Saturday’s jersey scrimmage practice that was available in its entirety for the media to see. Williams wore a red “no contact” jersey, but had a handful of carries late in the scrimmage and even took a few light hits from the defense.
Two new players on Notre Dame’s injured list are quarterback Blake Hebert and defensive back Dallas Golden. Hebert threw to receivers with the other signal callers early in practice, but he sat out during the live team periods.
“It happened yesterday in practice,” Irish head coach Marcus Freeman said after the scrimmage. “He tried to give it a go today. I just think he just tweaked his knee. He didn’t feel, I mean it wasn’t, I don’t think it’s anything serious. Because he just came out today and was like ‘I gonna try to go e it a go’ and said it didn’t feel good enough to perform. But it happened yesterday in practice. It wasn’t something that’s (bothered him) for awhile. But I think it’s minor.”
With Hebert out during the team period, early enrollee freshman quarterback Noah Grubbs took all the snaps with both the second and third team offensive units.
Golden, a rising sophomore cornerback, missed all of Saturday’s practice and he will be on the sideline for the last week of practices.
“He’ll be out the rest of spring,” Freeman explained. “He had a lower back kind of strain, sprain, stress on his lower back that we want to get calmed down. So, he got probably three good weeks of spring and we said hey let’s put him on the shelf for a little bit to let his back calm down, and we think that’s going to make him better.”
