From Audric Estimé’s first career touchdown to Cam Hart’s red-zone interception, former Golden Domers dominated the gridiron this week, delivering game-changing plays across the NFL landscape.
With each passing week in the NFL season, it seems like the number of Notre Dame alums making plays on Sundays continues to grow. This week was no exception. Former Fighting Irish standouts put on noteworthy performances throughout the Week 6 of the NFL slate and it started on Thursday night when the Seattle Seahawks traveled to Denver to take on the Broncos.
Running back Jadarian Price was placed on IR with a chest injury, but we still saw safety and captain Julian Love make plays for the Seahawks defense. The former Notre Dame cornerback totaled three tackles and a pass defensed. Broncos right tackle Mike McGlinchey helped the team rush for 74 yards and two touchdowns in their 17-14 win over the defending Super Bowl champs.
There was no shortage of a Notre Dame presence in yesterday's Sunday slate either. In the early window, the Texans took on the Jaguars in London and the Houston won in a shootout 34-31. We got to see Texans right tackle Blake Fisher and Jaguars center and captain Robert Hainsey in action to kickoff Sunday morning.
In the Bears vs Falcons game in Atlanta, former star safety Xavier Watts finished the day with four tackles and 1.0 tackle for loss. Bears tight end Cole Kmet ended the afternoon with two receptions and aided Chicago in their 31-23 victory, but Falcons offensive coordinator Tommy Rees helped engineer a 16-point, 4th quarter comeback that made the game much more interesting towards the end.
Baltimore Ravens safety Kyle Hamilton had another extremely productive afternoon racking up seven tackles and 3.0 tackles for loss while Browns running back Audric Estime rushed for 19 yards and a touchdown, the first of his career in Cleveland. In the Panthers and Eagles game, tight end Tommy Tremble caught four passes for 46 yards and two touchdowns in Carolina's 25-14 win on the road in Philadelphia.
The late afternoon window would have been a showdown of two former star running backs in South Bend, but Cardinals running back Jeremiyah Love was inactive in their matchup with the Los Angeles Rams and running back Kyren Williams. Williams finished the afternoon with 50 rushing yards on 10 carries and 17 receiving yards. Unfortunately, the Rams fell short and the Cardinals went on to win 18-16 in LA.
It was a productive defensive afternoon for two former Notre Dame standouts in Kansas City. Chiefs linebacker Drue Tranquil was No. 2 on the team in tackles with seven while Chargers cornerback Cam Hart picked off Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes in the red zone. Hart also finished the afternoon with four tackles and one pass defensed as well.
Finally, in the Bills vs Raiders game in Las Vegas, tight end Michael Mayer finished the afternoon with seven receptions and 95 yards. Mayer led the team in receptions against Buffalo's defense and was three yards shy of leading the team in receiving yards as well. The Raiders lost 33-30 in one of the more entertaining games of the afternoon.
Tomorrow night, you can watch defensive end Khalid Kareem and the San Francisco 49ers host the Washington Commanders at 8:15 PM on Monday Night Football.
