The Irish remain unbeaten after retaining the Megaphone Trophy, as Marcus Freeman breaks down critical in-game adjustments, a revitalized rushing attack, and Micah Gilbert’s standout receiving performance.
The Megaphone Trophy stays in South Bend. Notre Dame beat the visiting Michigan State Spartans 27-10. There's a lot to take away from this matchup and there's a lot of things to clean up, but at the end of the day, the Irish advance to 3-0. Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman spoke about their 17-point victory over the Spartans. There were some missed opportunities on both sides of the ball, but the Irish keep the Megaphone Trophy in South Bend.

FREEMAN ON THE PERFORMANCE OF THE RUN GAME
"I thought they did a good job," Freeman shared. "There were some runs early that weren't popping, and we got to stay committed to them. We've got to be able to draw up some of the pressures in the stunts they were doing defensively. I thought more than anything the adjustments that we made in game as a coaching staff and the ability for our players to then go out to the field and execute them was tremendous. But it was an emphasis for us this week. We'll see exactly how it went, but they did a good job, and we ran for a lot of yards."
FREEMAN ON MICAH GILBERT'S PERFORMANCE
"We capitalized on some shots," Freeman shared about the Notre Dame passing attack. "CJ [Carr] did a good job of putting the ball in a place where he can go make it, and then he's got to go make it. It's twofold. The O-line's got to protect, the quarterback's got to throw it, and the wideout's got to catch it, and we did that pretty well a few times today, and Micah [Gilbert] was the recipient of a lot of those."
FREEMAN ON IF TONIGHT WAS A SUSTAINABLE WAY TO KEEP WINNING
"I think every game presents its own story," Freeman stated. "How we won week one, 13-10, and what happened in the second half to make it 42-10, and we got a pick six and -- 42-13. Then what happened last week, our guys were just executing on both sides of the ball. I think every game is going to present a different story, and we'll see at the end what it is. I aspire to have a really good defense. I aspire to have a fundamentally sound offense that can rush the ball and capitalize off of big plays, and a special teams unit that can change the game. That's what I aspire this football team to be."
