Notre Dame bolstered their 2027 class by poaching a 300-pound California powerhouse. Discover why Joe Rudolph prioritized this versatile blocker and baseball standout despite his three-star ranking.
Notre Dame has landed yet another offensive lineman, gaining a commitment from West Hills, Calif./Chaminade Prep blocker Jackson Hill. The 6-7, 300-pound Hill had been committed to UCLA since April, but Notre Dame was able to swoop in and add him to their 2027 class.
Hill made an under the wraps visit to Notre Dame this spring, and Irish line coach Joe Rudolph has been pushing for him to join the class ever since. Hill committed to UCLA in early April, but the pull for Notre Dame was just too strong. Landing Hill gives Notre Dame four offensive linemen in the 2027 class. He joins Pennsylvania standout James Halter, Wisconsin lineman Richie Flanigan and Notre Dame's latest commitment prior to Hill's decision, elite New Jersey tackle Olu Olubobola.
This isn't your typical Notre Dame offensive line commitment, as Hill is a three-star recruit that ranks as the No. 44 offensive tackle in the country according to On3, and the No. 96 offensive tackle according to 247Sports. Notre Dame, however, sees a lot more than that. Notre Dame isn't desperate for numbers after landing Olubobola, Halter and Flanigan. The Irish are also still recruiting elite, five-star offensive lineman Albert Simien, who is supposed to officially visit Notre Dame the weekend of June 19th. Notre Dame also signed six offensive lineman a year ago. This commitment is about offensive line coach Joe Rudolph making an evaluation of a player, having conviction in that evaluation and believing that Hill is the type of player that adds value to the Irish offensive line.
Hill shows impressive size and has an interesting background. You don't see many 6-7, 300-pound offensive lineman who play catcher in baseball. On the field, he shows outstanding size and good length. Hill is a powerful run blocker that has the size and potential to play tackle, but there's also a chance he could move inside and be a physical run blocker as a guard in the Irish offense.
The Chaminade Prep big man earned offers from UCLA, Stanford and Oregon State. An outstanding student, Hill also earned offers from Penn and Dartmouth.
Hill is the 16th player to commit to Notre Dame in the 2027 class. He joins Florida quarterback Champ Monds, Texas running back Lathan Whisenton, Massachusetts running back Isaiah Rogers, Colorado wide receiver Jackson Coleman, Oklahoma tight end Titus Hawk, Olubobola, Halter, Flanigan, O'Neil, Florida linebacker Amarri Irvin, North Carolina cornerback Xavier Hasan, Ohio cornerback Ace Alston, Florida safety Zayden Gamble, Florida nickel John Gay III and North Carolina long snapper Sean Kraft.
