Spring practice ignites, with Pro Day looming. Dive into fan questions on defense comparisons, defensive line battles, and CJ Carr's potential legacy.
Spring practice has finally begun and the offseason is now fully underway. This past week, we got to see the players in action for the first time since they took the field against Stanford on November 29. Their season came to an abrupt end, but almost as quickly as it ended, we're kicking off spring practice. We're also kicking off another week of the offseason here at Irish Breakdown and there's no better way to get it started than with a buy/sell/hold.
Notre Dame kicked off spring practice last week and their Pro Day is tomorrow afternoon inside of the Irish Athletics Center. The premium message board subscribers broad it today with tons of great submissions around spring breakouts, position battles, season projections and of course a few movies questions mixed in. Our board members have been bringing the heat with submissions so far this offseason and today was no exception. You can listen to all of that and more in today's episode of the Irish Breakdown Podcast.

Here are some of the submissions we answered in today's buy/sell/hold:
On If We Would Trade Notre Dame's Defense For The Michigan Defense...
"Here's what I'll say. I would take the Notre Dame secondary over Michigan's secondary from 2023. I would also take the Notre Dame linebacking corps over Michigan's from 2023. The biggest question will be around the defensive line. That was a dominant unit for the Wolverines the year they won the championship. Now, does Notre Dame have the potential and the talent to be better than they were? Absolutely, but you're going to need guys like Boubacar Traore and Bryce Young and Jason Onye to play to their full potential to get there."
On If Notre Dame's Defensive Line Will Be The Best Unit Their Offensive Line Will Face All Season...
"I have to hold that unfortunately. I know they lost some key pieces to the NFL Draft, but let's not act like Miami doesn't have a lot of talent coming back. In practice, when the Irish go best on best, that will 100 percent be one of the best defensive lines they face all season, regular and post season. But Miami still has Justin Scott, Ahmad Moten, Marquise Lightfoot and Damon Wilson lining up on their starting defensive line. Talent wise, Notre Dame is extremely close, but they need some players to continue elevating before I can say definitively that they're they best unit their offensive line will face all season."
On CJ Carr's Legacy At Notre Dame...
"It will be determined by what they do in the post season and if he wins a national title. Look, we talk a lot on this show about Brady Quinn, Ian Book and Jimmy Clausen but what do they all have in common? They never won a championship. We talk about Tony Rice as much, if not more, than we do those other quarterbacks. You legacy is etched in stone when you win a national title, especially at a place like Notre Dame. If Carr wants the same, he'll have to bring home their 12th National Championship along with the other things that you're talking about."
