Irish Breakdown tackles recruiting visitors, positional value shifts, and wide receiver depth in this action-packed Friday mailbag.

We're off to a busy start to the offseason in 2026. Notre Dame has officially kicked off spring practice and have already picked up a big named running back recruit this week in Lathan Whisenton. We're one day closer to the Irish kicking off their season-long campaign against the Wisconsin Badgers up at Lambeau Field on September 6. This week, we covered a wide range of topics; we had our weekly buy/sell/hold. We broke down one of their practices earlier this week, talked through their Pro-Day which was on Tuesday and talked through some of the sleepers on the team.

Today, we capped of this week with a Friday free-for-all mailbag and answered w wide variety of questions. Our daily listeners came correct this week and asked a lot of great questions. We covered topics including potential spring breakouts and what to expect throughout the offseason. It was another great Friday free-for-all mailbag on today's episode of the Irish Breakdown Podcast.

Here are some of the questions we answered on today's show:

On The Recruiting Visits Scheduled For This Weekend...

"We talk a lot on this show about being able to stack classes, and now it's about being able to stack recruiting weekends. How do this recruiting staff and these coaches build off of their Junior Day which went extremely well. Earlier this week, running back Lathan Whisenton committed to Notre Dame just days after visiting this past Saturday. Nobody visiting tomorrow and this weekend has silently committed and there's some players on campus who are already committed to other schools. Can they turn those things around? This is going to be a big weekend for Notre Dame's recruiting operation."

On Positional Value In College Football vs The NFL...

"I think it really comes down to two things. First, it's based on the scheme of each team. If you ask the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs how they feel about tight ends, it will be a much different conversation than if you ask the Atlanta Falcons how they feel about the tight end position. I also think how the game has changed is a leading factor as well. Let's take the safety position for example. You don't need an Ed Reed or Kam Chancellor type of safety anymore to stop running backs like a Tiki Barber, Ladainian Tomlinson or Adrian Peterson type of running back anymore. They need to be able to cover and make plays in the passing game."

On If We Have A Preferred Lineup In The Two-Deep At Wide Receiver....

"To be honest with you, I don't and here's why. In previous years, this used to be a big thing with me, but now when you look at the talent in the room, having a preferred two-deep isn't that big of a deal. If it's Jordan Faison, Jaden Greathouse and Micah Gilbert, cool let's ride. If it's Mylan Graham, Quincy Porter and Elijah Burress, cool let's ride. The depth of talent in this room is exceptional. Now, it's about developing the younger talent in the room and getting the most out of your players to create the rotation."
