Spring practice is only a few days away and the road to the start of the 2026 football season is upon us. Notre Dame finished last season on a 10-game win streak but it ultimately wasn't enough to vault them into the College Football Playoffs. Now, a few months removed from the playoff snub, head coach Marcus Freeman reflects on the lessons learned and will channel that energy into motivation and fuel for this offseason.
Today, Freeman, along with Loren Landow and Rob Hunt talked through the winter training period, the introduction to spring and the outlook on the 2026 offseason. Freeman talked through what will be emphasized this offseason and acknowledged how far along the team is this year compared to where it was at this time last season. On today's midweek rundown, we reflect on this afternoon's press conference and wrap everything up with a mailbag. You can watch all of that and more in today's episode of the Irish Breakdown Podcast.

Here are some of the main topics we discussed on today's midweek rundown:
On Charles Jagusah's Injury...
"Today Rob Hunt talked about how his journey back has been 'a rough road' and he's undergoing his fifth surgery on his arm today. Moving forward, I don't want to talk about Jagusah on this show until we know he's going to be okay. Not just okay as a football player but okay as a person and a young man that's been battling back from a devastating arm injury he suffered around the Fourth of July last season. There was an infection that they have to go in a get cleaned up which will start to generate bone growth. Hopefully he can start the recovery process then."
On Getting The New Faces Acclimated To The Veterans...
"Notre Dame has 30 new players on campus just for this spring between the 24 early enrollee true freshman and the seven transfer portal players. Today in his press conference, Freeman talked through how they get them acclimated to their new team. They work them into the rotation in different phases. Some guys, it takes a week or two and other guys might take the duration of winter training. It was interesting to hear him talk through that. I didn't know that's what they did in the past."
On Cam Williams Outlook On This Season...
"Look, there's no way around it, this is going to be a big spring for Cam Williams. I'm not counting him out yet just like I didn't count out Miles Boykin or Javon McKinley who took a while to break out, but this offseason is going to be huge for Cam. It's basically now or never; my sources have said, and we have said, that he is the most physically gifted player in the room. Now it's about turning that potential into production."
