Notre Dame has landed a huge pickup in the transfer portal with former Ohio State wide receiver Quincy Porter choosing the Fighting Irish. It was a battle for the Irish to make this happen, but in the end the combination of NIL package, system fit and the chance to play with quarterback CJ Carr was enough for Notre Dame to add this talented pass catcher to the roster.
The former Oradell (N.J.) Bergen Catholic standout signed with Ohio State as part of the 2025 recruiting class. He was a five-star recruit according to On3 and 247Sports, ranking as the nation's No. 13 overall prospect and No. 2 wide receiver according to On3. 247Sports ranked the 6-4, 210-pound standout as the No. 31 overall player and the No. 4 wideout in the country.
Porter was a dominant player for Crusaders, hauling in 57 passes for 969 yards and 11 touchdowns as a senior while leading his squad to the state championship. Porter caught 41 passes for 969 yards and 16 touchdowns as a junior. In his final two prep seasons at Bergen Catholic, Porter caught 98 passes for 1,938 yards and 27 touchdowns in his final two seasons, good for a 19.8 yards per catch average.
In 2025, Porter backed up All-American wide receiver Jeremiah Smith, and he caught four passes for 59 yards, good for a 14.8 per catch average. The plan was that Porter would eventually be Smith's successor, but he instead chose to transfer to Notre Dame, where he'll have a chance to be a starter and impact player in the Irish offense. Porter has size and a style of play that is very similar to former Notre Dame star Malachi Fields, and that is exactly the role he'll fight for in the fall.
Notre Dame has a deep and talented receiving corps coming back in 2025, and the group is led by Jordan Faison and Jaden Greathouse. The issue is that Notre Dame lacks much depth in the boundary, where only redshirt sophomore Micah Gilbert returns. Classmate Cam Williams and possibly incoming freshman Kaydon Finley could both play the boundary, but they are both ideally suited for the field position. With Porter now in the fold, Notre Dame could choose to allow Williams and Finley to focus more on the field position while he battles with Gilbert for the boundary spot.
Porter injured his knee late in the 2025 season and reports are that it will likely keep him out for the spring, but he's likely to be full speed by the time fall camp rolls around.
On3 ranks Porter as the No. 18 overall player in the transfer portal and the No. 2 wide receiver.
