Talented 2028 tight end Theo Schott visits Notre Dame, leaving impressed. Proximity and future facilities seal the deal for the sought-after recruit.

By Bryan Ault

One of the most talented players in the 2028 class resides in the state of Indiana, and Notre Dame is in hot pursuit. That player would be Theo Schott, a talented tight end from Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville that was on campus this weekend for an unofficial visit.

Notre Dame left an extremely strong impression on the talented pass catcher, especially offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock and assistant tight ends coach Harris Bivin.

"The visit went really well," Schott told Irish Breakdown. "Had a great time. I got to sit in meetings, went to practice, got to meet with Coach Denbrock and Coach Bivin and how they use the tight end and that overall view. Throughout the visit, they really harped on post-football opportunities, that kind of college experience, because you have to go to class."

The Class of 2028 recruit, who already holds an offer from Notre Dame, is very high on the Irish given their proximity to his northwest Indianapolis suburb.

"They will always be really high," Schott said of the Irish. "Just the location and how close it is. They will always be high for me, but, I really loved it there.

"They’re building the new (facility) right now," continued Schott. "They gave us a presentation about that. That was pretty cool to see. That will be complete in July. Next time I will be up there, that’s gonna be done. They showed us the renderings, it’s super nice, top-of-the-end. That will be a huge upgrade for them."

Something that really stood out to the 6-foot-4, 215-pound tight end that didn’t stand out before the visit was how tightly-knit the campus was.

"Every building looks the same," Schott noted. "You can’t really tell apart from any of the buildings. It’s kind of cool to see. The campus is actually smaller than what people might think. It’s a small school."

The chance to watch practice and meet players, as well as head coach Marcus Freeman, was also a unique experience.

"Coach Freeman gets the players to buy in," Schott said. "Every player, you can tell, they have a really good relationship with him. He’s also a great guy – me and him talked for 30 minutes, not about football itself, just about connections we have. Great guy. Obviously, needs to be serious when he needs to be during practice."

How Notre Dame went about the practice also stood out to Schott.

"They don’t waste time at all," Schott said of the practice. "That was cool to see how their practices are ran and how they spend time with the team."

Denbrock and Bivin also left an impression on Schott. Bivin, in particular, offered feedback on how Schott needs to improve.

"Coach Denbrock, obviously as the OC, he gets to call the plays," Schott explained. "That’s a good thing when he’s your tight ends coach. Coach Bivin is a great guy. He showed us around the campus too. He was one of the ones I got to talk with the most. Super-cool dude, funny personality. He knows ball too. He showed me areas of improvement and ways I can get better and also some of my strengths."

Schott plans to return to campus several times over the next year.

"I’ll definitely up there for a game, but I’m pretty sure I’ll be coming to camp and the grill and chill after in early June unless something comes up," Schott stated.

Schott is ranked as the No. 203 overall player in the country according to On3. He has an impressive offer list that includes Notre Dame, Georgia, Alabama, Oregon, Indiana, LSU, Texas A&M, Florida, Tennessee, Missouri, Auburn, SMU, Texas Tech, Louisville and Iowa among many others.
