Following a 51-point blowout of Stanford, the Irish extend their dominant winning streak and prepare for a high-stakes showdown against a ranked BYU squad in the West.
Notre Dame has moved up yet again in the latest Associated Press Poll after its dominant win over Stanford. The Irish are now the No. 2 ranked team in the country thanks to their latest blowout victory, as well as the No. 1 team getting upset.
Notre Dame earned a 16th straight win this weekend with a 58-7 win over Stanford. It was a dominant performance from start to finish, as the Irish out-gained Stanford 598-202 and held a 37-0 lead at halftime. It was not only Notre Dame's 16th straight win, but it was its 16th straight win by double digits. That includes a pair of wins over Stanford, as the Irish beat the Cardinal 49-20 to end the 2025 season. It was also Notre Dame's ninth straight home win as the Irish regain dominance on their home field. Three of those nine home wins were by at least 50 points, including yesterday's win over Stanford.
This is Notre Dame's highest AP ranking since the end of the 2024 season, and the highest the Irish have been ranked in the regular season since November of the 2020 season. Notre Dame began the season ranked No. 4 in the AP rankings and moved up to No. 3 after two games, and they've remained there until this weekend.
BYU earned a 24-10 win on Friday night against Iowa State, which allowed the Cougars to remain at No. 8 in the latest AP Top 25. That means Notre Dame and BYU are set for a Top 10 battle when they square off this weekend inside LaVell Edwards Stadium. It's the first meeting between the teams since 2022, a game the Irish won 28-20.
Notre Dame has two more future opponents in the latest AP Top 25. Despite being off this weekend, Miami moved up to No. 3, while SMU remains at No. 25 after its bye week. Notre Dame beat Wisconsin 41-13 in the season opener, and the Badgers are the top team receiving votes and are just 20 overall points outside of the Top 25.
The Irish jump was also fueled by Texas losing this weekend to Oklahoma. Texas dropped the game by a 27-24 score despite the Sooners only scoring one offensive touchdown. LSU also dropped out of the Top 10 after losing to Kentucky and former Irish quarterback Kenny Minchey.
