Third-year receiver Cam Williams thrives in Notre Dame's intense competition, fueling his confidence and readiness for a breakout season.

Spring training is about growth. Coming out of the spring, you want to grow as a coaching staff, a team and as an individual. For receiver Cam Williams who's entering his third spring, growth is the name of the game. This is his third time going through spring training in South Bend and the 6-2, 201-pound receiver is ready to seize the opportunity in front of him.

"I want to go out there and have fun," Williams shared. "I was thinking about this the other day; it’s my third spring. I know how this rolls, I know how it goes and I know the flow of all this. I know I’m able to play faster and play smoother. That’s been my mindset."

Williams came to Notre Dame in the 2024 class, the same as starting quarterback CJ Carr. Since his arrival, the Illinois native has consistently been referred to as the most physically gifted receiver in the room, but he has yet to breakout in the way many fans thought he would. The journey to success is different for every player. Some like Leonard Moore make it happen right away while others take a little time. For Williams, that time is quickly approaching.

"I think confidence and the work I’ve put in over the course of the years,” Williams answered when asked what's allowed him to take the next steps this spring. "I’m sticking true to who I want to be and what I want to achieve and I’m believing in it."

The road to cracking the wide receiver rotation won't be an easy one. This is a loaded wide receiver room in South Bend and the most talented one I've seen at Notre Dame in quite some time. Receivers Jordan Faison and Jaden Greathouse return and two Ohio State transfers are also expected to make their presence felt. There's also been others risers in the spring like Micah Gilbert and Elijah Burress. The competition in the room is steep, but that's to be expected.

"I think competition is good," Williams explained. "You want dudes who want to be in here and compete that want to fight for that spot. We all know that’s what it is. At the end of the day, you have to compete and not let that get in the way of anything else. What’s on the field is on the field; what happens elsewhere happens elsewhere."

The level of competition in the room doesn't impede this unit from being a tight-knit group. The same could be said for the entire team. Williams, along with every other player on the roster, knows what's at stake this season, and it will take their strong bond and brotherhood to reach their ultimate goal of winning a National Championship.

"This school is such a tight-knit community," Williams shared. "We treat it as that, whether it’s athletes or students. I think, when there's so much kind of going on outside of here, it's important to know that we do have God and I think that helps us, especially as a small community."
