Amidst a stacked receiver room and elite competition, Logan Saldate carves his niche, embracing new roles and challenging Notre Dame's top defensive backs daily.
The Notre Dame wide receiver room has been a hot topic of discussion this offseason. They're an incredibly deep unit that has the potential to be a difference maker in 2026. We've talked about Jaden Greathouse, Jordan Faison, Mylan Graham, Quincy Porter, Cam Williams, Elijah Burress and Micah Gilbert ad nauseum since January, but one receiver that's flown relatively under the radar and has been putting in the work has been Logan Saldate.
"We have a lot of guys," Saldate explained. "We're super deep but the number one thing is we all want each other to win. We all want each other to keep succeeding and the only way that's possible is to push each other every day. So it's just going out there and knowing that you guys all have the same goal. You guys all want to be on the field. We keep pushing each other in those types of ways."
Saldate recently moved to the outside receiver position due to an absolutely loaded room at the slot position. It was an adjustment for the 5-11, 185-pound California native, but he's making the most of his opportunities and is learning as much as he can as an outside wide receiver.
"It kind of took me by surprise a little bit, because I've been working slot, but I for sure wasn't mad about it," Saldate shared. "First off, it gives me a chance to learn the offense more. Second, I'm also fairly comfortable with being outside, keeping in mind that I played outside in high school a lot, so I am comfortable out there. I'm pretty confident."
Confidence is key to playing the position, but also needed when going against extremely talented competition every day in practice. Notre Dame has the best secondary in the country and this receiving corps gets to go against them every day in practice. That's something these wide outs will benefit from; there's a chance they won't face a better secondary all season long.
"It's competition every single day," Saldate said about the talented defensive backs. "I think we have one of the best defenses in the country, so I look at it as a blessing to be able to compete against guys like Dallas Golden and even Ayden Pouncey, freshman coming in, every single say. They're lengthy, they're getting taught good technique and it's just good work for all of us."
Saldate has the opportunity to crack the rotation this season, but it won't be easy. This is as talented of a receiving room that I've seen at Notre Dame from top to bottom in a very long time. If you win a spot in this rotation, we know it will be earned, and Saldate is working his tail off to be considered.
