Discover spring breakouts, rising stars, and portal impact. Uncover Notre Dame's evolving identity and critical questions before fall camp ignites.

Now that spring training has come to a close, it's time to start turning the page to summer workouts and start looking a head to fall camp. Before we do, it's time for one final recap of Notre Dame's spring training window. In today's show, we dive into some superlatives and talk through some spring breakouts, rising newcomers and impressive portal players. We also talked through the biggest surprises on each side of the ball. This was an impressive spring for Notre Dame and there were a lot of players to talk about.

Then, we broke down the conversation into both sides of the football. We learned a lot about this offense and defense over the course of the spring. We now have a confirmed look at the new look offensive line, this unit is starting to take on the identity of starting quarterback CJ Carr and the talent is starting to shine overall. The same could be said on the defensive side of the ball. But there are still some questions that we need answered as well. We wrapped up everything with a daily mailbag. You can listen to all of that and more in today's episode of the Irish Breakdown Podcast.

Here are some of the main topics we discussed on today's episode:

On The Top Freshman On Offense This Spring...

"There's definitely a couple at receiver. For me, it's Devin Fitzgerald. He's a player that was my dark horse candidate coming into the spring. A lot of attention went to Kaydon Finley and Bubba Frazier, rightfully so. But for me it was simple. I watched what Fitzgerald did during his senior year of high school combined with the genetics that were bound to kick in at some point. He's really impressed me this spring. The next question for him is now about doing it against elevated competition. He's dominated the competition on the 3rd team and scout team, but now in the fall, I'd like him to get some opportunities against Mark Zackery, Dallas Golden, Jayden Sanders, Leonard Moore and guys like that. He's earned the right through his play in the spring."

On The Top Freshman On Defense This Spring...

"There's a couple of more candidates on defense than offense because we got to see more of them due to some injuries. For both of us, it's Rodney Dunham. There was a lot of talk coming into spring, and we got a lot of questions in mailbags and buy/sell/holds around who we thought could play as a freshman on defense and Dunham's name was routinely brought up. This spring, it verified what we believed to have been true. It's what you would expect a five-star player to come in and look like if we're being totally honest about it. Dunham will play this season; he's looked very impressive in a room that features guys like Boubacar Traore, Bryce Young, Keon Keeley and Loghan Thomas. I can't wait to see what he does in the summer and fall camp."
