Boubacar Traore headlines a loaded position group primed for a national breakout. Discover how emerging stars and critical recruiting targets will shape the Irish defensive front.
Now that we're turning the page of spring training, it's time to continue breaking down the state of the program by position group. Next up, is the Notre Dame defensive end room which is absolutely loaded with talent. At the top, you have returning starter Boubacar Traore who is poised for a national breakout in 2026. He has the ability to have the impact this season that previous title contending defenses have had at the end position. But Traore isn't alone in this journey; there are several other players in the room that need to elevate and breakout this season as well.
In today's show, we talk about what Traore has to do for the Irish defense. We also breakdown the roles that Bryce Young, Keon Keeley, Loghan Thomas, Rodney Dunham and Ebenezer Ewetade will play on defense this season. Then, we talk about the future of the room and what is happening and what needs to be done on the recruiting trail. There's a lot of talent out there in the 2027 and 2028 classes and Notre Dame has impact talent they have to land. We wrapped everything up with a daily mailbag focused around the defensive ends. Here are some of the main topics we discussed on today's episode:
On Boubacar Traore's 2026 Season...
"I think he's takin the strides to become that elite player. Big picture, it remains to be seen if he's answered that question. Did he take big strides from when the season ended until now? I think he has, but now it's about taking those next steps. I feel very confident that Boubacar Traore is going to go into the 2026 season, as long as he stays healthy, to be an elite player. He has the tools, he's taken the strides and I believe that he's poised to become that player. It's no longer about projection, it's now the expectation and he performed like a guy that we should expect that from in the fall."
On Bryce Young's Outlook On The 2026 Season...
"He is one of two players, in my opinion, that unlocks the overall potential in this room. To some degree, I'm confident in what we're going to see from Traore this fall. We are two guys who believe that Notre Dame could have one of, if not the best one-two punch at defensive end this season. But the other side of that conversation is Bryce Young. Young has all the God-given tools in the world to become an elite defensive end. Now, the next step for him is for Bryce to believe that he can become an elite defensive end. Sometimes with him, it's paralysis by analysis. When he plays free, he's an absolutely dog. Now it's about going out and proving it this upcoming season. At some point, the light is going to go on full time for him and when that happens, it's going to be a lot of fun."
