With veteran leadership, explosive transfers, and emerging freshmen, Mike Brown’s deep unit enters a defining season. Can this talented receiving corps finally transition from good to elite?

For what feels like the 5th season in a row, we've come to the time in the offseason where we're talking about the potential of the wide receiver room and how good they could be this upcoming season. But there were some things that we saw this spring that makes us think this group is taking a big step forward in the right direction. Receivers coach Mike Brown is heading into his third year with this group. Outside of the two Ohio State transfers, every player in the room has spent the majority of their career under his tutelage and it's starting to pay off, but there's another level they can get to.

Rising senior Jordan Faison is back after leading the team last season, Jaden Greathouse should be back healthy in the fall, Mylan Graham showed out in the spring, the freshman class is what we hoped it could be and are farther along and they get some impact players back in the summer like Quincy Porter. There are still some questions that need answered, but they're in a really good spot a couple of months away from kicking off fall camp. We also talk about the future of the position and break down what needs to happen in the 2027 and 2028 classes. You can listen to all of that and more in today's episode of the Irish Breakdown Podcast.

Here are some of the main topics we discussed on today's episode:

On What's At Stake For Mike Brown This Season...

"He's definitely entering a defining season in South Bend. He, along with offensive line coach Joe Rudolph are in very similar spots. Up to this point in their careers at Notre Dame, they've been good, but the question is, can they be elite? I don't think we have the answer to that yet and for Brown, with the talent in this room, I think we'll have that answer. He's done a good job up to this point, and I don't want to discredit the work he has done with this unit. But now it's time to take that to the next level, especially with the high level of talent on the roster. If he can't get it done and elevate this room to an elite-level this season with the talent they have, I don't know when it will happen."

On Jaden Greathouse's Outlook On The 2026 Season...

"Who's the only receiver in college football who had back to back 100-yard games in the semi-finals and the national title game? I bet you a lot of fans would name a lot of players before they would get to Greathouse, but that's the answer. The biggest thing for him is his health. If he's able to stay healthy, then I don't have any questions on if he's going to be good. If he's healthy, the question is 'how good will he be' not if he'll be good. The fact of the matter is that the receiving corps as a whole is better with him healthy."
