Dual-threat quarterback Kamden Lopati visits South Bend, seeking his true fit within Notre Dame's ambitious plan and development strategy.

Notre Dame's journey to land a 2027 quarterback has been interesting, but right now the focus of that path is on Kamden Lopati, who makes another important trip to South Bend this weekend. The Salt Lake City, Utah/West standout was offered by Notre Dame in February, and the offer was a needle mover for the talented dual-threat quarterback.

"It was a blessing," Lopati said of his offer from Notre Dame. "It was like a dream come true. I really can't explain how it felt to get an offer from a school like Notre Dame."

The Illinois commit will continue to walk in that blessing as he makes his second visit to South Bend, with a focus on getting to know more about Notre Dame and spending valuable time with the staff.

"I'm excited for sure," Lopati said. "I'm really looking forward to getting out to the University of Notre Dame and spending more time with the staff."

The 6-3, 215-pounder has been committed to Bret Bielema and the Illini since last summer, mainly because of the relationship with the staff and the detailed plan that they laid out for his development. As he spends time with the Irish staff, he's interested in seeing their vision for the quarterback room, and him personally.

"I want to see where how I fit," Lopati shared. "More than anything, I want to understand where I truly fit in their system and how they see me developing over time. I'm looking forward to my conversations with Coach (Marcus) Freeman, Coach (Mike) Denbrock, and Coach Gino (Guidugli).

"It's about the plan," Lopati continued. "I'm focused on learning what their plan looks like for me. Not just early on, but long-term. I want to see how they develop their quarterbacks, how they build trust and what my role could look like when my opportunity comes."

The talented signal-caller wants to absorb every aspect of the Notre Dame experience on his upcoming visit. He's always heard great things about the school and football, but he wants to take it all in on this visit with his family.

"We're really looking forward to it," Lopati explained. "I'm just going to take it all in. The full experience. I'm going to ask the right questions and see if it's the right fit both on and off the field."

Since offering Lopati, the Fighting Irish staff has approached his recruitment with a level of urgency that shows a high level of interest, and that's been apparent to the Salt Lake prep star. That means a lot to him and his family, and will be part of the considerations when the familial decision leads him to where he fits and needs to be.

"It's really about finding the right place," Lopati declared. "Not just for me, but for my family too. No matter where I go, they're a big part of that decision. So, I'm going to be paying attention to how comfortable they feel around the program and the people. So far, they've been great making me feel like a priority."

His family already has profound respect for the tradition and standards of Notre Dame on and off the field, but the opportunity to really get to know the people behind the tradition and standards along with the players that exemplify excellence on the gridiron, is going to be the best part of the entire experience."

"We can't wait to meet the people," Lopati said. "The coaches, staff and players. Getting a chance to experience the campus and the people around campus.  With a place like Notre Dame, that's what it comes down to.

"The relationships, Lopati continued. "How you develop me as a quarterback and a person, and where I fit in the system for both me and my family. Just making sure it's a place where all of us feel at home and confident in the direction we're going."

Notre Dame is in prime position with Lopati and his family heading into this weekend's two-day visit. If things go according to plan, they should secure an official visit and a chance to possibly add a quarterback that ESPN ranks as the No. 50 overall player in the country and the No. 1 pocket passer in the country.
