Notre Dame hosted a long list of talented prospects this past weekend, and one of the very best players on campus was Chicago (Ill.) Mt. Carmel wide receiver Quentin Burrell. The 6-3, 195-pound star pass catcher was looking forward to making the trip to South Bend for his game day.
A focus of the visit was getting to know Fighting Irish wide receiver coach Mike Brown better, seeing how the players interacted with coaches, and experiencing the game day environment.
"The visit went really good,” Burrell told Irish Breakdown. "It was a great game and the fans were into it the whole time. The fans are really passionate about their team."
The time spent speaking with Brown was also impactful.
“Our relationship is getting stronger, and I liked what I saw from his interaction with the wide receivers before the game," Burrell explained. "I got a chance to talk to Coach (Marcus) Freeman for a quick second on the field as well.”
The 38th ranked player in the nation according to ESPN, Burrell also came into the visit with a laser focus on the Fighting Irish offense and how the passing game would perform. He plays in pass-heavy offense that features him solo in the boundary on most snaps and he got a chance to see how he could fit into the offense.
“I can see myself in the offense,” Burrell elaborated. “I liked how (Malachi) Fields was used and how he made big plays when it was needed. I would like to see them throw it more, but that will come.”
The Chicagoland area provided several recruits for the weekend, and Burrell enjoyed spending time with them outside of competing on the field. He also got a chance to spend some time with someone that could be throwing him passes in the future in the form of 2027 quarterback commit Teddy Jarrard.
“I knew a lot of the recruits,” Burrell said. “Some of my teammates were there and some of the guys I knew from Boom and facing them in 7 on 7. I talked to some other Chicago area guys in the stands, because we were arriving at different times.
“I met the quarterback Teddy,” Burrell continued. “We talked a lot, and he was cool.”
Burrell is excited to get back on the field as his team chases a third consecutive state championship. He has upcoming visits to Miami, Penn State and Michigan, with Arizona State and Missouri looking to bring him as well. Considering all of that, a return visit to South Bend is something he would like.
“I would like to get back,” Burrell explained. “But I’ve got other visits first and then the playoffs. I’m focused on four championships. But it could happen because it’s easy to get to.”
