Today, per his Instagram post, right tackle Aamil Wagner is headed to the NFL Draft. Wagner came to Notre Dame in the 2022 recruiting class and earned the starting right tackle position during his red shirt sophomore season in 2024. Despite the smattering of injuries that plagued the offensive line over the last two seasons, Wagner was the only starting offensive lineman the last two seasons to not miss a game with an injury.
The 6-6, 300-pound Ohio native started in 28 games between the 2024 and 2025 season. He played on some of the biggest stages in college football included Kyle Field against Texas A&M, the Coliseum against USC, the first-ever College Football Playoff game on a college campus, the Sugar Bowl, the Orange Bowl and the National Championship.
Via his Instagram post, which went up today around 12:00pm, Wagner stated how grateful he was for the opportunity to play in South Bend the last four seasons.
“I want to start off by thanking God for giving me the opportunity to play the sport I love at a place like Notre Dame, surrounded by people I love the most,” Wagner stated. “The past four years spent at Notre Dame have been a remarkable experience and I wouldn’t change a single thing. The memories I’ve made with teammates, staff and friends on campus will last me a lifetime.”
Wagner also talked through his relationship with head coach Marcus Freeman and the rest of the team.
“To Notre Dame, Coach Freeman’s Staff and the O-Line room: thank you for accepting me as family. Thank you for allowing me to grow and become the man I am today. And lastly, thank you for making this college experience some of the best years of my life. After much prayer and thought, I have decided to pursue my dreams by declaring for the NFL Draft. I am extremely excited for the next step in my journey, but Notre Dame will always be home.”
Wagner ended the season as the highest graded pass blocker amongst the starters according to Pro Football Focus, although he finished with the lowest run blocking grade amongst the starting offensive lineman. His abilities as a pass blocker were on full display this season, and after a rough start against Miami in week one, bounced back in major fashion. The 6-6, 300-pound offensive lineman played 342 pass blocking snaps, allowed seven total pressures and only one sack this season coming against Miami. Since week one, Wagner didn’t allow a single hit or sack on the quarterback.
It’s unlikely Wagner will be a day one pick in the NFL Draft, but whatever team elects to take him in the draft is getting a strong leader, a hard worker and a great person added to their roster. He finished this season being named one of the six captains on the roster and will be remembered for his leadership and work ethic on and off the field for Notre Dame.
