Notre Dame was able to sit at home and watch week nine of the college football season, and while there were plenty of entertaining games the top of the rankings didn't get adjusted much. Notre Dame remains ranked No. 12 in the latest Associated Press poll, and all 12 of the teams ranked in last week's Top 12 are still there.
There were some minor changes, with Ole Miss leaping Georgia Tech for the No. 7 spot, and Vanderbilt jumping ahead of Miami into the No. 9 spot. Miami is now tied for 10th with BYU. Ole Miss beat last week's No. 13 team - Oklahoma - by a 34-26 score in Norman, which boosted their resume. Vanderbilt knocked off Missouri by a 17-10 score, dropping the Tigers out of their No. 15 spot.
Notre Dame now has a win over an AP Top 25 team, with USC jumping back into the rankings at No. 23. The Irish beat USC 34-24 last weekend and both teams had a bye in week nine. Notre Dame's losses are to No. 3 Texas A&M, who beat the Irish 41-40 in week three and No. 9 Miami, who beat the Irish 27-24 in week one.
Two future opponents also earned votes in this week's Top 25. Navy got the most votes in the "Others Receiving Votes" category and Pittsburgh also got a vote after demolishing ND State this weekend. Navy is undefeated at 7-0 and the Panthers are winners of four straight games, including yesterday's 53-34 win over the Wolfpack. Navy takes on 7-1 North Texas this weekend in advance of their game against Notre Dame on November 8.
A big surprise in this week's ranking is that Iowa remains unranked and is just fourth in the others receiving votes category. Iowa has won five of six games, with its only loss being a 20-15 home loss to No. 2 Indiana. Iowa beat Minnesota 41-3 this weekend and it continues to have one of the best defenses in college football.
