Notre Dame got a chance to get some much-needed rest this weekend as it enjoyed its final bye of the regular season. When the Irish get back on the field on Saturday it will square off against one of its biggest rivals, the Boston College Eagles. After a 6-day hold was placed on the game, we now know what time kickoff will be for this matchup.
Notre Dame announced the game will kickoff at 3:30 PM ET and will be aired on ESPN.
Notre Dame is set to go through an important five-game slate that will determine if it will once again make the College Football Playoff. The Irish advanced to the national championship game last season, but an 0-2 start to the season put a repeat in question. Fortunately for Notre Dame there has been a lot of college football chaos over the last month, which combined with Notre Dame playing dominant football to put the Irish in a great position to once again make the playoff.
Notre Dame, for its part, will need to not only run the table but look good doing it. That's especially true against the inferior teams on the schedule, and Boston College is in that category. The Eagles fell to 1-7 after a 38-24 loss to #19 Louisville, although the Eagles did compete well in this game. Boston College won its first game of the season (66-10) and then took Michigan State to overtime on the road in week two, but they have struggled since then. Their current losing streak includes a 38-23 home loss to UConn, a 48-7 road loss to Pittsburgh, a 28-24 home loss to Cal and a 30-20 road loss to Stanford.
Notre Dame holds an 18-9 all-time record against Boston College and the Irish have won nine straight games. That includes four straight games inside Alumni Stadium (Chestnut Hill, Mass.). All four of those games in Chestnut Hill have been double digit wins. The irish have scored at least 40 points in each of their last four games against Boston College, including a 44-0 win in 2022. Note Dame's four wins in Chestnut Hill during this stretch were 45-31 (2020), 49-20 (2017), 21-6 (2012) and 31-13 (2010).
Prior to that win streak the Eagles dominated the series, winning six straight games from 2001 to 2008, which includes three straight home games. Notre Dame will look to extend its win streak, but the Irish will need another dominant victory in order to improve its playoff resume. Winning is important, but when it comes to November there is little doubt that style points matter, especially against a 1-7 team.
