Xavier Hasan brings elite versatility to Notre Dame, excelling in man, zone, and tackling. He's a playmaker ready to dominate in the secondary.
Notre Dame has made a habit of landing big time cornerbacks in recent seasons and that continued when the Irish landed a commitment from Xavier Hasan. Notre Dame made Hasan a priority from the moment it began focusing on the 2027 class, so landing him was a major recruiting victory.

NOTRE DAME FIT
The fit for Hasan has changed a bit due to coaching changes over the last two years, but that's part of what makes Hasan such a big time prospect. His game translates extremely well in several aspects. Need him to go out and play man? Check. Need him to show range and make a lot of plays in zone looks? Check. Need him to come up and tackle in space, be a strong run game/quick game defender? Check. Need a playmaker? Check. Notre Dame wants Hasan as a cornerback, and he grades out as a top player there. But his versatility is such that he could play both outside cornerback positions and the nickel at a high level. Need an elite cover safety? He's your man. Simply put, he's a big time football player.
FILM ANALYSIS
Hasan has a really good build for the secondary. He's listed at 5-11 and 190 pounds, but it's his arm length that I really like. His frame is good and his functional play strength is he still has plenty of room to not only add good weight, but also get stronger. Hasan is already a stout tackler, showing the willingness to come downhill and drill ball carriers. He combines that with sound technique and the ability to get low and explode through the lower body of a ball carrier.
Hasan is a smooth athlete and an easy mover. His pedal is really fluid and his footwork is efficient, which helps him make very quick and natural transitions. Notre Dame doesn't ask cornerbacks to come up and press as much as we saw before, which means corners will be asked to do utilize a wider array of footwork techniques. Hasan's combination of length, smooth movements and ability to be sudden when playing off coverage allows him to be very sticky in coverage.
Hasan is a strong all-around athlete, but he doesn't show elite speed. Think Benjamin Morrison more than Leonard Moore from a speed standpoint. As we saw the last four years, both skillsets allow for elite coverage ability. Hasan's technical efficiency, smooth athletic skills and acceleration allow him to play fast and gives him all the range he needs to excel in any coverage type.
Being an elite cover player is more than just physical tools. Notre Dame's elite corners in recent seasons (Moore, Morrison, Cam Hart, Julian Love) have all had different physical skillsets and body types, but they all had one thing in common: elite instincts. That is what ultimately puts Hasan over the top for me. He's clearly an intelligent football player that has a great natural feel for the game. His ability to read routes and the quarterback is extremely impressive, and his feel for jumping routes (timing, angles) is excellent.
Notre Dame also values versatility in its defensive backs, and as stated above Hasan grades out quite well in that area. He's a natural cornerback, but a debate could be had whether his best position is field cornerback, boundary cornerback or nickel cornerback. Parts of his game project better in different areas, and that is partly why he grades out so high overall. His size, range, instincts and physicality also project well to the safety position should the need arise. Let's say in a couple of seasons the cornerback position is set but Hasan is clearly one of the five best defensive backs on the roster, he could easily play nickel or move to safety and do in college what Love has done in the NFL. That level of versatility makes him extremely valuable and makes a path to the field much cleaner.
If all of this wasn't enough to get you to love Hasan as a prospect, consider that he returned three kicks and a punt for touchdowns as a junior in 2025.
