Notre Dame was initially hopeful that Charles Jagusah could be ready to play later this month, but it looks like that is not the case now. The Fighting Irish offensive lineman broke his arm in July in a UTV accident in Wyoming and had surgery to repair a broken humerus bone. The initial team prognosis was a late October return for the third year lineman but a recent setback has made his return uncertain.
“He had a follow-up surgery — I can’t remember — a couple weeks ago, just to clean up some things in his arm,” Irish head coach Marcus Freeman said on Monday. “It's going to be a process to get him back, but he is making positive strides. He will return at some point, I just don't know when it's going to be right now.”
This is the second straight year Jagusah has missed extensive time due to injury. He went into last year’s training camp as the front-runner to be Notre Dame’s left tackle but a torn pectoral muscle saw him miss all of the 2024 regular season.
Jagusah made his season debut against Georgia in the College Football Playoffs last year. He played the next week against Penn State and started in the national championship game against Ohio State. The Rock Island, Ill native is now working to try to return at some point this season.
“He's just, every day in that training room, in the weight room, trying to get stronger and healed up,” Freeman said. “So, when we find out that he's ready to go and can help us, we'll obviously utilize that information and make some decisions from there. But right now, he's just in the process of rehabbing and healing up.”
Jagusah came to Notre Dame as one of the top-rated offensive linemen in the nation in 2023. He has played in just five games to date in his three seasons with the Irish.
