After a really tough and disappointing loss against the Washington Huskies, the Buckeyes got back on the board with a win over the Rutgers Scarlet Knights on night two of the Big Ten Tournament.
Their win yesterday set up a matchup with the loser between the Huskies and the Michigan Wolverines. Michigan had defeated Rutgers via the run rule on Tuesday night, which set up its matchup with the Huskies.
The game late last night was never in question. Washington jumped out to an early lead and then ran away with it, defeating Michigan 7-1 to set up the rivalry matchup with everything on the line.
Thursday's matchup is just one week removed from a dominating trip for Ohio State to Ann Arbor. To end the regular season, Ohio State went up to Michigan and swept the Wolverines in convincing fashion for the first time since 1994.
The Buckeyes rolled through the Wolverins with wins of 13-2, 7-3, and 8-1 to dominate their rivals. Unfortunately for them, past wins don't carry over anything at all into this game. They have to make 27 outs to keep their NCAA Tournament hopes alive.
Both teams are outside looking in for the NCAA Tournament, which will be selected in one week's time. Michigan is right on the bubble after its blowout loss to Washington. They need a win over Ohio State and likely a win over Nebraska to keep their season alive.
For Ohio State, they need much of the same and probably one more victory over Oregon to have a chance at getting into the Tournament.
Regardless of it all, there is nothing better than a pivotal Big Ten Tournament matchup that features the best rivalry in all of sports. Whenever the Block O and the Block M link up, there is real hatred and real rivalry.
The winner of Thursday night's game advances to Friday night's game against the Nebraska Cornhuskers, while the loser packs their bags and gets ready for their exit interviews.
Everything is at stake on Thursday night and an instant classic is in the making.
