Ohio State needed a jolt of energy in their running back room, and they got it from their budding freshman star Bo Jackson.

In Ohio State's win over Grambling State in Week 2, wide receiver Jeremiah Smith said that Bo Jackson had the potential to be "the next great one" in the running back room.

Jackson wasted no time proving Smith right as he got his first real chance on Saturday night and he took advantage of it. The freshman from Cleveland, Ohio finished last night's game with nine carries for 109 yards, paving the way for the Buckeyes' 37-9 victory over Ohio.

In what turned out to be a critical point in the game, Ohio State had just surrendered a 67-yard touchdown to the Bobcats that trimmed the OSU lead to 13-9. The Buckeyes came onto the field and wasted no time, handed the ball to the freshman, and let him do the rest.

Jackson got skinny through the hole, made a nice jump cut to evade a tackler, and then dropped it into fourth gear and was up the sideline. He did get tracked down by an Ohio defensive back, but not until he covered 64 yards and set Ohio State up deep inside the red zone.

Ohio has the hype right now but the Buckeyes are on a missi...

That run was a microcosm of what the Buckeyes have been missing in their running back room.

CJ Donaldson is the power back, but he hasn't shown to be much more than that. James Peoples hasn't assumed the role as many thought he would. A big question mark remained in the most important position room for the Buckeyes.

Ohio State fans got their first taste of Jackson last week against Grambling when he finished with nine carries for 108 yards and a touchdown. That was the appetizer, and Saturday against OU was the meal as Jackson looked the part against the starters on the Ohio defense.

In two games getting carries for Ohio State, Jackson has 18 carries for 217 yards and one score. A near-flawless start for the budding star as he assumes the role of the next great Buckeyes back.

Up next for Ohio State is a well-deserved bye week. Ohio State's "first quarter" of the season featured a win over the then top-ranked team and two convincing wins over lesser opponents.

The bye week will hardly be that. It will be a week where the Buckeyes will continue their process and get ready for the start of Big Ten play.
