This week's episode of the Buckeye Breakdown Podcast is all Big Ten Media Days, the good, the bad and the ugly.
Big Ten Media Days this week in Chicago gave all football fans some hope that the season is truly right around the corner. This is the final hurdle to get through in the offseason before Training Camp begins and the season is officially underway.
Unlike the Media Days for all of the other conferences, there was not too much drama at the Big Ten's until Curt Cignetti took the mic.
Cignetti took a direct shot across the bow at the SEC on Thursday afternoon when he went on his version of the "Big Ten is the best conference" rant. He said up in the Midwest we don't run a hype machine, we take accountability, and we win. It was one heck of an exclamation point on what was a pretty smooth couple of days in Chicago for the conference.
On the Ohio State front, it was the Jeremiah Smith and Julian Sayin show with a dash of Ryan Day.
The most notable thing that Ryan Day talked about was his plan for the beginning of camp. He hinted at the fact that the Buckeyes are going to want to have their offensive line established by the 9th or 10th day of camp. That is nearly the dead middle of Training Camp, and it is a perfect plan for a position group that is doubted and needs to have a major year.
Day also talked about the offseason that his quarterback has had. He mentioned that Sayin has attacked this offseason with a chip on his shoulder and has grown in all of the proper places. Now, he needs to show it on the field and put all questions about him to bed.
In terms of Jeremiah Smith, he was, for the first time in his career, a headline machine. Nothing that he said was controversial, but he talked about knowing this year was his final season, how he played the last couple of months on basically one leg, and how he approached this offseason.
From all accounts, the Buckeyes had a perfect Media Day performance. In these situations, no news is good news, and the Buckeyes come out of this week with their eyes set on Training Camp with no baggage heading into the season.
