The NFL Draft has come and gone, and the Buckeyes, again, showed that they are the most talented team in the country.
On today's episode of the Buckeye Breakdown Podcast, Kevin Woidke and I dive into the last week in Ohio State sports, specifically, the NFL Draft.
One week from Thursday Night, the Buckeyes stole the show from the start to the finish of the NFL Draft. Carnell Tate, somehow someway, was the first Buckeye to come off the board, followed by a trio of defenders: Arvell Reese, Sonny Styles, and Caleb Downs.
The Buckeyes were not done there. Just as there was a run on Buckeyes in the first round, there was a run on Buckeyes in the second round as well. Kayden McDonald got things going, followed by Max Klare and Davison Igbinosun to close out that round.
The shocker of the draft came in the third round when the Miami Dolphins jumped up and snagged Will Kacmarek, the Ohio State blocking tight end. To most, this would be labeled as a pretty big reach, but it is a really great fit for Kacmarek and the new regime in Miami, trying to turn that franchise around.
After the third round, there was a bit of a break until the fifth round when Lorenzo Styles Jr. flew off the board, followed by Caden Curry in the sixth round and Ethan Onianwa in the seventh round.
The Buckeyes netted 11 draft picks in this draft and set a couple of records along the way. In the last two years, they had 25 total draft picks, which ties the record for most players selected in a two-year period. Beyond that, with Carnell Tate being selected in the first round, they now have five straight years of first-round wide receivers. That is the most ever.
Finally, looking back at the 2025 National Championship team, that entire defense heard their name called in the NFL. Every one of those starters was eventually drafted at the next level.
The 2026 NFL Draft was a very positive day for all of the past Buckeyes. That came on the heels of the current Buckeyes getting some great work in at their Spring Game two weeks ago.
We touch very briefly on that, and things get contentious as we discuss the outlook at the quarterback position for the Buckeyes.
All of that and so much more on this week's episode of the Buckeye Breakdown Podcast.
