The future of Ohio State's quarterback room is in great hands as Brady Edmunds put on a show in week one.
The 2027 Ohio State recruiting class is set to be an incredible one for the future of the Ohio State program.
They already have two five-star recruits, one being a wide receiver and the other being DJ Jacobs, the edge defender. They also have one of the top four-star quarterbacks who is coming to Columbus to take over the starting quarterback job.
Four-star recruit Brady Edmunds from California put on an absolute show in week one of the high school preseason. In the first game of the season, he set a new school record, throwing for 446 yards and six touchdowns in Huntington Beach's win.
Edmunds will get to Columbus and immediately be in a peculiar situation in the quarterback room.
As things stand right now, Tavien St. Clair is set to be the lead dog in the race to take over for Julian Sayin, assuming Sayin goes to the NFL Draft. If St. Clair goes crazy next year, he will be eligible for the NFL Draft, but it is likely that he will stay for two years in Columbus.
Also joining the Buckeyes program in 2028 is the most hyped quarterback in the 2028 recruiting class, Christopher Vargas. The Buckeyes have invested heavily in Vargas, and he will be coming to Ohio State with the belief that he is going to take over the job.
That leaves Edmunds kind of stuck in the middle of a lot of elite players, and he is going to be in the middle, competing for the job.
What is good for Edmunds is that he is one of the elite throwers in the 2027 class, and he looks the part of an elite quarterback. He stands at 6'5" and has an absolute elite arm that can touch all parts of the field.
He would find himself in more of the CJ Stroud role, where he is more of a pocket passer as opposed to a run-first type of player. He is athletic enough to make things happen, much the same as Stroud and Julian Sayin.
Edmunds kicked around the idea of reopening his recruitment earlier this summer, but ultimately with UCLA as the target. He ultimately shut that down and stayed committed to the Buckeyes for now.
The future of the Ohio State program is going to be in good hands for the next several seasons as long as these elite quarterbacks continue to come in.
