Ohio State offensive line prospect Marcus Fakatou documented his entire trip to Columbus and raved about Ohio State's authenticity.
Ohio State hosted another set of the top recruits in the country this past weekend, and it was packed with four and five-star guys, per usual.
What was unusual about the weekend is that they allowed one of their top offensive line recruits, Marcus Fakatou, to document the entire trip and post it to his YouTube vlog. I guess in a world of content, this shouldn't come as a total surprise.
The entire vlog is jam-packed with incredible Ohio State content, but one clip absolutely stood out amongst all of the rest.
After the visit, Fakatou was laid up talking about what he experienced at Ohio State, and it was clear that one thing stood out to him. He referenced the fact that the Buckeyes didn't have to rely on any flash in their recruiting pitches. He said that they didn't push it over the top and that he could tell it was very authentic.
In an era of college football where there is flash everywhere. They are cars, photoshoots, flash, pomp, and circumstance. The Buckeyes bring their culture to the table.
It's an authentic pitch that is truthfully based on the most important thing for these recruits, and that is playing football and working towards the NFL.
Ohio State has been the best program in America over the course of the past decade and has done it all the right way. After the Tressel era, which was marred by a made-up "crime" of exchanging memorabilia for tattoos, the era ended as one of the great eras in college football.
Now, Urban Meyer's era wasn't all sunshine and rainbows, but it was again built on success on the field. Day strikes the perfect balance between Meyer and Tressel. He is firm like Meyer but level-headed like Tressel.
Like both of them, Ohio State football is the most important thing to all three of them, and that comes through with the program's authenticity and consistency.
Flash doesn't win football games; cars and money don't win football games. All of that stuff is fleeting. If you want it, there are plenty of other schools that will give it to you. If you want to win football games and propel yourself to the next level, you do that at Ohio State.
