Buckeyes Reportedly, Officially, Name Starting QB For USC Game

It's official: Ohio State names Luke Fahey as the starting quarterback for the game against USC.

The two-week quarterback saga is officially, reportedly, over as the Buckeyes name Luke Fahey as the starting quarterback for the first game without Julian Sayin.

Ohio State is out west right now as they prepare for a huge game against the USC Trojans without their starting quarterback. After a full two weeks of Ryan Day dancing around who his starting quarterback is going to be, it was revealed on Friday night that Fahey got the nod.

This is hardly a surprise to anyone who has watched the Buckeyes this year because the start of the year signaled how obvious this decision was going to be.

Tavien St. Clair was giving Julian Sayin a nice Spring Ball competition in March and April, to the point that he had a really nice showing in the Spring Game, and people thought he might challenge for the starting spot.

As it turns out, he was going to be in a competition for the backup job. It became a competition that he lost to Luke Fahey, a true freshman who came in and competed each day for that backup spot.

He overtook that spot, and when it came time for the Buckeyes to get some backups in against Ball State, Fahey came trotting onto the field. It was certainly a surprise, but it showed just had good of a camp that he had.

He was the first one off the bench against Ball State, Kent State, Illinois, Maryland, and then the big one was last week against Indiana.

When Sayin went down, it was Fahey who came off the bench for the final eight minutes of the game.

The two-week charade that Day put on was more of an act than it was a real thing. It was always going to be Fahey, and now we know that it is going to be him.

In the season, he has completed just under 70 percent of his passes for 203 yards, two 2 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions.

For the Buckeyes on Saturday night, he needs to be steady all night long. He absolutely does not need to look like a Heisman Trophy winner for the Buckeyes to get the job done. He just needs to stay within the Buckeyes game plan and stay the course.

If he does that and protects the football, the Buckeyes are going to be in an incredible position to win the football game.

Fahey overtook the backup job during camp and has never looked back. Now, he will get his opportunity to make his first career start as an Ohio State Buckeye on Saturday night against USC.
