The AP Poll continues to make a mockery of itself as, week over week, they make inconsistent decisions for the best teams in all of college football.
Week after week, the AP Poll continues to make a mockery of itself, and Week 6 was no different.
The AP's ineptitude thankfully didn't impact the Buckeyes this time, as Ohio State climbed up one spot from No. 5 to No. 4 in this round of the rankings. Everything that happened below them was head-scratching at best.
I have tried to stay away from the SEC and Big Ten bias in the rankings and across the entire landscape, but at some point it becomes impossible to ignore.
There were several things that made plenty of sense, like Georgia being 1, Notre Dame slotting up to 2, and Miami being ahead of Ohio State for now at 3. Those all make sense because I do believe that water will find its level with Notre Dame and Miami as the season continues. Georgia, for my money, is the best team in the country at this point in the year.
Behind Ohio State is where it gets really weird, starting with Texas. Texas was the No. 1 team in the country last week before they were upset by unranked and struggling Oklahoma. That loss dropped them just to No. 7 in the country, only six spots down. That little bit of movement deserves a debate because that was a horrible loss by the Longhorns.
There is a major conversation to be had surrounding spots 9 through 16. Ole Miss slots in at No. 9 in the country, with their only loss being a blowout to the Florida Gators a few weeks ago. That was a decent loss until it wasn't. The Gators are no longer ranked and might not be very good.
How that doesn't factor into Ole Miss's top-10 ranking is fair to question. Then, the quadrant of Missouri, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Mississippi State is interesting at best.
Missouri's lone loss is to Mississippi State, but they are ahead of them because of their big win over Florida. See the note above.
Mississippi State, on the other hand, is two spots below Missouri because it got blown out by Alabama by 33 points. Okay, if that's the rationale, how is Mississippi State ahead of Iowa who has only one loss to the Ohio State Buckeyes by 17? Try to make that one make sense.
Kentucky is properly placed, in my opinion, after their last-second win over the LSU Tigers late on Saturday night. However, they need to be on a quick rise if they continue playing at this level.
Tennessee hasn't beaten anyone of consequence, with a three-point loss to Texas, who just had the worst loss of the weekend. They are getting a lot of credit for nothing, really, at this point.
The one point that I agree with is Northwestern cracking the top-25. They absolutely deserve to be in the Top-25, and I would imagine they continue to climb.
Another weird week in the AP Top 25 voting. Thankfully it didn't negatively impact the Buckeyes but it still doesn't make much sense.
