Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith is the best player in college football, period. The rankings in this year's edition of College Football's video game, NCAA 27, reflect that.
Smith is the only player in the game with a 99 overall rating in the game, and rightfully so. He is by far and away the best player in college football, and next year for him has the potential to be one of the best we have ever seen.
Smith is the most complete player that the sport has seen since Randy Moss in 1996. He looks like a defensive end, he runs like an Olympic track star, he catches the ball better than anyone, and he is virtually unstoppable.
In terms of the video game, Smith is joined at the top of the chart by Notre Dame's Leonard Moore, Missouri's Cayden Green and Ole Miss's Kewan Lacy to name a few at the top of the chart.
For Smith, this year is about three things.
The first and most important is getting Ohio State back to its rightful spot at the top of college football. The Buckeyes have one goal in mind, and that is hoisting the trophy again this season, and to do that, they are going to need Smith to be at his best.
For Ohio State to get there, they will need Smith to not only be available, but they will need him to put together one of the best statistical seasons of his career. That will be hard to do as he has put together two dazzling years in years one and two.
In back-to-back seasons, he has had more than 75 catches, 1,200 yards, and 12 touchdowns. Topping those numbers will be challenging, but he is going to need to do it. With the way that the Buckeyes' roster is constructed, a lot is going to be on his plate.
The third and final goal for Smith is to stay healthy. He is so close to realizing his dream of making it to the NFL, and he just needs to avoid the catastrophic injury that could derail his future.
Smith is on pace to be in legitimate conversations about being the No. 1 overall draft pick next year. For now, he can be happy with being the top-rated player in NCAA 27 and dream about the year that lies directly in front of him.
