College Football media personality Josh Pate is always stirring the pot with creative ways to view and evaluate college football.
Whether he is comparing ratings to rankings or giving out the weekly Sarah McLaughlin award, he is always evaluating the sport and all of the teams within it. On Monday, he released his most recent rankings, this time it was the top-12 programs in America using the last three years as the sample size.
This ranking list pulls in regular-season success, postseason success, and success on the recruiting trail. It doesn't end there. Pate also pulls in the all-mighty dollar into his evaluation and how the programs stand in terms of NIL on the national landscape.
The list is a good one, and it features a lot of the normal suspects that have been at the top of college football.
Alabama, Miami, Texas A&M, Michigan, Texas Tech, and Tennessee fill out the bottom spots from No. 7 through No. 12. The top half of the rankings descend starting with Notre Dame at six, Texas at five, Oregon at four, Indiana at three, Georgia at two, and the Ohio State Buckeyes topping the charts with the No. 1 ranking.
Pate had this to say about the Buckeyes:
"I think that Ohio State is the top program in the country," Pate stated. "Ohio State is 37-6 over the past three years, they've got a National Championship mixed in here, and they are a top-five recruiting program in the country. They are a very very high value portal program ... They are just excellent at staffing."
Yes, Josh, you nailed it.
Ohio State, over the past three years, has been a model program in all facets. That really could probably extend for five or maybe even the past decade.
Ever since Ryan Day took over the Ohio State program in 2018, he quite literally picked up right where Urban Meyer left off. Day has a 75-10 record over his entire career, which is good for an 88.2 percent rate of winning, which is .1 percent better than Knute Rockne's 88.1 winning percentage.
Day coaches, develops, recruits, and politics his program better than anyone in the country. The proof is in the pudding.
Ohio State is the standard that everyone is chasing, and it will be that way as long as Ryan Day is in charge.
