After the Ohio State Buckeyes’ loss against the Indiana Hoosiers in the Big Ten Conference Championship on Saturday evening, head coach Ryan Day and his squad are now preparing for the 2025 College Football Playoffs.
With the Buckeyes landing the No. 2 seed in the playoffs, Day and his squad will receive a first-round bye after suffering one loss to the Hoosiers.
This means Ohio State will play the winner of the No. 7 vs No. 10 game, which will be a battle between the Texas A&M Aggies and the Miami Hurricanes.
Looking at the Aggies, the SEC powerhouse finished the regular season with a strong 11-1 record. Led by head coach Mike Elko, Texas A&M is fueled by the program’s stout defensive line. Elko’s squad is tied for first in the nation in sacks with 41, as defensive end Cashius Howell currently has 11.5 sacks this season.
On the other side of the ball, the Aggies' offense is driven by the efforts of quarterback Marcel Reed. The sophomore talent has thrown for 2,932 yards and 25 touchdowns, while also rushing for 466 yards and six touchdowns on 89 carries.
Luckily for Ohio State, Day will not have to potentially face the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, who many considered to be one team that could dethrone the Buckeyes. Instead, Texas A&M will play the Hurricanes in the first round.
Miami’s 2025 season has been a complete rollercoaster. Head coach Mario Christbol’s lineup showed out in Week One against the Fighting Irish, 27-24. However, the Hurricanes faced some adversity in the middle of the season after dropping games to the Louisville Cardinals at home and the SMU Mustangs on the road.
With two conference losses this season, Miami was forced out of the ACC Championship Game on Saturday night, as the Duke Blue Devils took down the Virginia Cavaliers, 27-20. And despite Notre Dame being ranked ahead of the Hurricanes last week and both teams not playing in a conference championship game, Miami managed to leap the Fighting Irish for the final spot.
The Aggies open as 3.5-point favorites over the Hurricanes, with the matchup taking place on Dec. 20 at 12:00 PM EST.
