Former Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Urban Meyer gives his input on who should be playing for the Buckeyes in relief of Julian Sayin.

If there is ever anyone who would know what to do when your starting quarterback goes down for the year, it would be Urban Meyer.

Meyer's only National Championship season in 2014 came with nearly the exact same situation that these Ohio State Buckeyes are facing right now. In the final game of the season against the Michigan Wolverines, the Buckeyes' legend JT Barrett broke his ankle and was done for the year.

In came Cardale Jones, and the rest was history. Jones led the Buckeyes to a huge win over Wisconsin in the Big Ten Championship to get the Buckeyes into the CFP, and then he took down the Alabama Crimson Tide before taking out the Oregon Ducks to win it all. It was an impressive run for the Buckeyes with their backup quarterback.

Ryan Day was not on Meyer's staff at that point, so he doesn't have experience with exactly what to do. If he needs some advice, Meyer isn't too far away.

On Tuesday, Meyer weighed in on the situation and gave his two cents about what he believes the Buckeyes should do. On the Triple Option Podcast, Meyer questioned why "the five-star" wasn't the first one out when Sayin went down.

Now, everyone who has watched every Buckeyes game this year knows that Luke Fahey was going to be the first one up if this scenario ever came up. Fahey came onto the field and did just enough to keep the Buckeyes in front, but he didn't do anything to raise any eyebrows.

In fairness to him, he came in at a nearly impossible spot. There was eight minutes to go in the biggest game of the year against the best defense that the Buckeyes will face all year long.

They escaped with a much-needed win, but there are several questions that need to be answered after the end of that football game. One specific question is which quarterback is going to put them in the best position to win long-term.

To the credit of Day and his staff, they are going to let the two guys battle it out during the bye week this week. The really unfortunate part of that is that, for the players, the bye week just became a real week of practice.

Typically, it is these couple of days that the players get to get refreshed and dive deep into the fundamentals. That is out the door now. It is back to "camp vibes" on offense, and everyone needs to compete so that the new quarterback can be identified.

If it were up to Urban Meyer, he would go with Tavien St. Clair. Ryan Day is going to let St. Clair and Fahey duel it out in practice this week, and the best man will win. Hopefully, the best man can propel the Buckeyes back to the College Football Playoff.
