Former Ohio State five-star wide receiver Julian Fleming reports to jail to begin serving his sentence.
Former Ohio State Buckeye wide receiver Julian Fleming officially reported to jail on Monday to begin serving his sentence for the death of his late girlfriend, Alyssa Boyd.
Fleming was driving an ATV with Boyd in May of 2025 when the two struck a deer going between 30 and 40 mph. The crash caused major injuries to Fleming, and it caused Boyd to lose her life.
The fallout of the accident was that Fleming was charged with a DUI and was facing 11 charges, four of which were felony charges. He pleaded guilty to misdemeanor manslaughter and a DUI in exchange for the felonies and seven other charges being dropped.
In what was deemed a "very unfortunate case," was one that Fleming decided not to fight.
District Attorney Richard Wilson released a written statement saying, "While we were confident that we could prove Crushshon-Fleming committed a DUI offense, proving the connection between that and the death of the victim would be difficult,” Wilson said. “While Crushshon-Fleming’s intoxication did not help matters, a jury would likely conclude that the collision with the deer caused the riders to crash, and therefore the victim’s death, not the alcohol intoxication.”
Defense attorney David S. Bahuriak Jr. spoke highly of Fleming, saying that he wanted to take accountability for what happened and even apologized during the hearings. Bahuriak Jr. said that Fleming is a "stand-up young man" and the way that he handled the situation "said a lot about his character."
Fleming's post-Ohio State career was just one season at Penn State. In that year, he played in 16 games but registered just 14 catches for 176 yards and one touchdown.
While at Ohio State, he put together four years of very quality football. He appeared in just 39 games across his Buckeyes career, and in those games, he registered 79 catches for 963 yards and seven total touchdowns.
After college, he signed with the Green Bay Packers but failed his physical and never got the opportunity to play on the team.
For now, Fleming's story is one of very sad heartbreak. He came into college as the No. 4 recruit in the nation, the No. 1 wide receiver, and the No. 1 recruit from the state of Pennsylvania. He was a higher-ranked player than Jaxon Smith-Njigba and had a future as bright as could be.
Now, he faces his first week of a prison sentence that will be at a minimum of nine months and at a maximum of 23 months.
