The Ohio State Buckeyes enter the Big Ten Championship Game after a major win over Michigan. Ohio State had lost to the Wolverines in four straight seasons, but ended the streak with a 27-9 win on Saturday.
Heading into the game, wide receivers Jeremiah Smith and Carnell Tate were questionable. However, they both played in the game and will be available in the Big Ten Championship Game.
Head coach Ryan Day said Smith and Tate came out of the game against Michigan "as good as could be expected," and they are “excited to play” in the Big Ten Championship Game against Indiana.
This is great news for the Buckeyes' offense as Smith and Tate are their best weapons. In 11 games this season, Smith has hauled in 72 receptions for 942 yards and 11 touchdowns. He has also rushed for 20 yards and a touchdown on two carries.
The 20-year-old wide receiver is one of the best players in college football, forcing defenses to often double-team him, which creates one-on-one opportunities for Tate.
Tate has appeared in nine games, catching 44 passes for 793 yards and eight touchdowns. Smith and Tate are two of the best receivers in college football, and both will be first-round picks when they enter the NFL Draft.
Against Michigan, Smith had three receptions for 40 yards and a touchdown, while Tate had five receptions for 82 yards and a touchdown.
They have helped quarterback Julian Sayin have an incredible first season as the Buckeyes' starting quarterback. He is in the Heisman race as he's completed 78.9 percent of his passes for 3,065 yards, 30 touchdowns, and five interceptions.
Ohio State is looking to win their second straight National Championship, but it won't be an easy path. Taking down Indiana in the Big Ten Championship Game would go a long way toward solidifying the Buckeyes as the No.1 seed in the College Football Playoff.
Ohio State will lean on their playmakers in Smith and Tate to take over the game. Indiana is currently the No. 2 seed and undefeated, making this a clash of two of the best teams in college football on Saturday.
