Julian Sayin left Saturday's heavyweight matchup against Indiana with an injury that will change the trajectory of the Buckeyes' season.
The Ohio State Buckeyes are on the fringe of disaster as, after Saturday, the Ohio State signal caller Julian Sayin is going to be out "several weeks" while the Buckeyes head into the second half of the season.
Truthfully, Sayin did not play all that well against Indiana, but it doesn't matter; having your quarterback is a death wish for a team that needs to continue getting better at this point of the season.
There is a lot to dissect about what this injury means, but there is no denying that this changes the trajectory of this team. Thankfully, the Buckeyes escaped against Indiana with a win, and they are still in really good shape to make the College Football Playoffs. However, Vegas has made the first move.
On Sunday morning, the Buckeyes woke up and had moved down to second place behind the Notre Dame Fighting Irish to win the National Championship.
A little bit of a head-scratcher as Notre Dame fell to BYU late on Saturday. night, but their odds improved. For the Buckeyes, context on Saturday's win is obviously important. They escaped because Nick Marsh didn't get a foot down in the endzone, and then they lost their quarterback. As far as wins go, this is one that you come out relieved but a little disappointed because the outlook has shifted significantly.
Additionally, the end of the Buckeyes' season doesn't get any easier. They finally get the bye week this week to get a little bit healthier for the final five-game stretch. It begins with USC in Los Angeles in a game that will be a challenge, even if they were at full strength.
According to FanDuel, Ohio State's title odds are +475, behind Notre Dame's +450. Behind Ohio State are Georgia, Miami, and then Indiana.
The Buckeyes inside the building don't care at all about what the National title odds are, but it is always fascinating to see what the perception is nationally about not only the Buckeyes but the state of college football.
This week was absolute carnage across the country, and the Buckeyes won the battle, but the war might get much tougher after Saturday. It appears that Luke Fahey is going to get the first crack at the quarterback position. He has appeared several times already this year, but now he can push this team forward.
The national perception adjusted slightly about these Buckeyes but hopefully, they can get to 100 percent heath before the postseason run.
