After a heartbreaking end to the 2025 college football season, the Ohio State Buckeyes and head coach Ryan Day will be seeking redemption during the upcoming year.
With the Big 10 powerhouse’s schedule being released earlier this week, fans were scared to see the long list of ranked opponents that Ohio State will take on in 2026. However, there is one game that continues to grab the attention of the fanbase this offseason.
According to FanDuel Sportsbook, the Buckeyes opened as 2.5-point underdogs for the program’s week two showdown against the Texas Longhorns.
Adam Cairns/Columbus Dispatch / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn ImagesLast year, the Buckeyes began their series against the Longhorns in a highly anticipated week one matchup and managed to take down the former preseason No. 1 team in the nation, 14-7. While the game was a defensive battle between both teams, quarterback Julian Sayin was able to do enough in his first-career start, completing 13 of his 20 pass attempts for 126 yards and one touchdown.
However, both programs had faced a load of turnover this offseason through the transfer portal and the 2026 NFL Draft, resulting in the upcoming battle being yet another primetime matchup.
Led by head coach Steve Sarkisian and starting quarterback Arch Manning, the Longhorns are coming off a season filled with ups and downs. Texas ended the 2025 season with a 10-3 record, including a mid-season loss to the Florida Gators and the No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs.
However, Texas would go on to win its last three games against the Arkansas Razorbacks, the Texas A&M Aggies, and the Michigan Wolverines in the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl.
As for Day and the Buckeyes, the program’s 2026 schedule will be filled with stout competition.
Outside of the team’s week two matchup, Ohio State is set to play six schools that were inside the final 2025-26 Coaches Poll. This includes a rematch against the reigning National Champions in the Indiana Hoosiers, along with games against the Oregon Ducks and the Michigan Wolverines to close out the regular season.
The Buckeyes’ contest against the Longhorns will take place on Sept. 12 on the road, with the kickoff time being determined at a later date.
