The Ohio State Buckeyes completed their uniform trio with a perfect touch on their home and road outfits.
The Ohio State Buckeyes sent a shockwave through the college football world on Monday when they released their all-black "Tunnel Vision" uniforms. On Wednesday, they did it again.
The Buckeye fanbase has been clamoring for the return of the "Heritage Stripes" that were a mainstay on the uniform in the 1990s and the early 2000s. They removed them after the 2005 season, and it has been a thing every offseason since.
The reason for the removal isn't all that clear. Some believe that it had to do with Nike taking over the jersey design, others believe that it had to do with wanting to establish a new visual identity.
Regardless of the reason, the stripes left the jerseys and only returned sparingly. The two most notable times were in the 2015 National Championship when the Buckeyes ran off on the Oregon Ducks to an easy title. The other time was the 2024 National Championship run when the Buckeyes donned the stripes against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, who took them down in Atlanta.
The wait is officially over as the Buckeyes released their primary home and away jerseys for the 2026 season, with the main change being the addition of the Heritage Stripes, which are now called the "Buckeye Stripes."
Ohio State has always had one of the more iconic jerseys in all of college football and when that is the case, not much change is needed.
One of the main issues with Ohio State's modern home jersey was that it featured no gray or silver contrasting with the scarlet. It's been a tough reality for a team that is called the Scarlet and Gray. That is now gone with the addition of the Buckeye Stripes.
The Core Away jerseys remain largely the same. The only difference in the stripe is that it is significantly larger than what Buckeye fans have been used to.
The Tunnel Vision jerseys are the perfect compliment to the Home and Away uniforms.
Kudos to the design team for deciding to move away from the All-Gray alternates they used back in 2024 and for some years before that.
Ohio State's trifecta of uniforms is, unbiasedly, the best in all of college football. The home and roads are clean and sharp, while the alternates are not overly flashy but are still so cool while being the perfect amount of different.
Ohio State's 2026 looks are set for the season.
