While fans are still celebrating a huge Week 14 victory over the Michigan Wolverines, the Ohio State Buckeyes now have their eyes set on the Big Ten Conference Championship Game against the Indiana Hoosiers.
As the top two teams in the nation, both Ohio State and Indiana are now the only Power Four teams within the top 25 that remain undefeated in 2025. This will become an important storyline before Saturday’s matchup, as the winner of the contest will presumably become the No. 1 seed in the 2025 College Football Playoffs.
According to DraftKings Sportsbook, the Buckeyes open as 5.5-point favorites over the Hoosiers for Saturday’s Big Ten Conference Championship matchup.
After cruising by their opponents for the entire college football season, Ohio State was able to secure the program’s spot in the Conference Championship after defeating the Michigan Wolverines in Week 14, 27-9.
The victory marks head coach Ryan Day’s first-ever win against the Buckeyes’ long-hated rivals as the head coach.
Now, Ohio State must face its toughest battle of the 2025 season next week against the No. 2-ranked Hoosiers, who also managed to finish the regular season with a perfect record. This includes a victory over the Oregon Ducks on the road, along with a massive 63-10 win over the Illinois Fighting Illini.
In addition to the high stakes at Lucas Oil Stadium on Saturday, this will be a head-to-head battle between two frontrunners for the Heisman Trophy Award in Ohio State quarterback Julian Sayin and Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza.
The two Big Ten gunslingers have been key pieces to both programs’ undefeated season, and now, fans will get an opportunity to see the two face off against each other next week.
Luckily for Buckeyes’ fans, Day has had head coach Curt Cignetti’s number since taking over the coaching duties.
Last year, Ohio State hosted the Hoosiers in a highly anticipated matchup, which resulted in a 38-15 win over Indiana. The defense managed to hold former Hoosiers’ quarterback Kurtis Rourke to eight completions for 63 passing yards, making for an ugly offensive performance for Cignetti’s squad.
This year, the combination of impressive play from Mendoza and a gritty defense makes them even more of a threat than the 2024 team, which means Day and his squad must be prepared for the upcoming battle.
