Ohio State head coach Ryan Day released the news on Tuesday about Julian Sayin, which will shake up the rest of the season for the Buckeyes.

The worst fears are now officially true for the Ohio State Buckeyes. Head Coach Ryan Day said on Tuesday that his quarterback, Julian Sayin, will be out indefinitely, and the Buckeyes are preparing to not have him again for the remainder of the season.

This is pretty significant and bad news for Ohio State, as they were trying to mount a run back to the National Championship game. Sayin came into the season as one of the contenders to win the Heisman Trophy, and now they are setting up for life without their star signal caller.

For the Buckeyes, this is a place that Ryan Day has never been in before during his era. Throughout all of his time, he has never had to replace his quarterback midway through the season and still find a way to keep the National Championship hopes alive.

Sayin's season has been up and down so far. He started off strong with solid performances against Ball State and Kent State, and a good first half against Texas.

He corrected that second-half letdown with a good performance against Illinois and a very sharp day against the Iowa Hawkeyes. It was one of his best games, in my opinion, as an Ohio State Buckeye.

Then, against Indiana, he really struggled, and truthfully, that was to be expected. The Hoosiers are just as good this year as they were last year and are going to be around until the end of the season.

Unfortunately for Sayin, and what has been a theme all year long, is that his offensive line could not keep him upright. He was taking hits all afternoon, and the last one might be his last of the entire season.

With just over eight minutes to go in the game against Indiana, with the Buckeyes trying to close out the win, Sayin got crushed on a strip sack that the Buckeyes recovered. The hit was not dirty; it was just violent and at the perfectly wrong time as he was in his throwing motion. The direct impact was on the shoulder/elbow area.

Day confirmed that the injury is to his elbow and that it will cost him the season.

Now, the question becomes: where do they go from here? The obvious first answer is to Luke Fahey, who has become the clear backup, but now it will be musical chairs until someone can come in and keep the Buckeyes competitive.

The only good part is that Day does have experience starting a freshman who has never started before in a huge environment. He has two weeks to get Fahey ready to keep the Buckeyes on their National Championship trajectory.
