Ohio State Lands Former ACC Standout Defender in Transfer Portal cover image

The Ohio State Buckeyes and head coach Ryan Day managed to land former Duke Blue Devils' safety Terry Moore in the transfer portal on Monday.

As the transfer portal continues to heat up, the Ohio State Buckeyes and head coach Ryan Day are slowly navigating their way through all the chaos this offseason.

Luckily for Day and the coaching staff, the program received a significant boost on Monday morning.

According to On3Sports’ Hayes Fawcett, former Duke Blue Devils safety Terry Moore has committed to the Buckeyes shortly after entering his name in the transfer portal.

Moore, a former three-star prospect in the 2022 recruiting cycle, was an underrated prospect coming out of high school. However, he would ultimately decide to stay close to home and play for the Blue Devils for his college career.

This would pay off for the young talent, as he would quickly receive some playing time in his first season with the program. It would not be until his sophomore season that Moore would see an increase in his role on defense, as he would finish the 2024 season with 43 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and two pass deflections under head coach Manny Diaz.

After his outstanding efforts in 2024, Moore would eventually carry over his success into his junior season with the Blue Devils.

During the 2025 season, the up-and-coming playmaker had his best year at the college level, ending the year with 71 tackles, five pass deflections, four interceptions, and two forced fumbles. This included a massive performance against the Miami Hurricanes, where Moore tallied nine tackles, one forced fumble, and one sack.

Looking at how he will fit within defensive coordinator Matt Patricia’s unit in 2026, Moore is poised to be a key player for the Buckeyes next season. With star safety Caleb Downs recently declaring for the 2026 NFL Draft, the veteran defensive back will be a perfect replacement in the secondary.

In addition to landing Moore, Day also managed to land former Florida State safety Earl Little Jr. in the transfer portal on Sunday, giving Patricia plenty of depth at the position.

Ohio State lost another starting safety in Malik Hartford to the transfer portal this offseason, so the combination of Moore and Little will be a terrific foundation for the defense next year.
