What Ohio State Buckeyes' linebacker Sonny Styles just did on Thursday at the NFL Combine is nearly impossible to comprehend.
Everyone in Columbus knew how good he was on a week-by-week basis. We could see his raw athleticism in game jumps out, but Thursday, we got to see him just put his athleticism on display, and he did just that.
Styles checked in at 6-foot-5 weighing 244 lbs., with his arm length checked in at 32 7/8-inches and 10-inch handsize. Translated to layman's terms, he is built like a robot.
It didn't stop there. Styles went to the turf and totally blew the doors off the place. Yes, his 4.46 is the highlight of the day, but mixed in there is a 43.5" vertical and an 11'2" broad jump.
To compare to some NFL current players and former legends, Styles measured in at the same height as Calvin Johnson, three pounds lighter than Derrick Henry, the same vertical as Nate Robinson (the NBA Basketball Player), the same 40 as Bijan Robinson, and the same broad jump as Julio Jones.
It's tough for the mind to comprehend.
This chart is my favorite one by far.
The RAS score is a player's "Relative Athletic Score." It is a number that factors in all of a player's data. It is his height, his weight, and all of his test scores combined together to spit a number out to rank the players simply based on athletic ability.
In addition to his testing numbers, the RAS scores also factor in each number for the position that they are playing. So if a player weighed 300 pounds, it would rank differently if he were a defensive lineman compared to if he were a cornerback.
As you may guess, Styles ranked as a perfect 10.00 as a linebacker. But it didn't stop there.
He also ranked as a perfect 10 as a strong safety, as a cornerback, as a wide receiver, and he ranked as a 9.87 as a defensive end.
To say that Styles is a perfect prospect isn't that much of an exaggeration. He is the perfect prospect because his perfect athletic ability is matched with an incredibly intelligent and strong mind.
His football IQ is so far off the charts, and he uses that raw athletic ability to make football plays. He is athletic in a vacuum, and he is athletic in shoulder pads and a helmet.
Styles stole the show on Thursday at the NFL Combine.
