Ohio State star Jeremiah Smith has accomplished something not seen in over 20 years, and it's only halftime.

Smith has single-handedly helped the Buckeyes jump out to a 28-10 halftime lead over Illinois, showing why he could be the Heisman Trophy winner this season. The star wideout has recorded eight catches for 150 yards and three touchdowns at halftime.
With these numbers, Smith is the first player with the Buckeyes to record three touchdown catches in a half since Noah Brown did so back in 2016. Smith also had 123 yards in the first quarter of the game, which is the most by a player in a Big Ten game over the last 20 years.
These numbers have been incredible to see and Smith has completely taken over the game against Illinois. But the Buckeyes are still only leading by 18 despite his dominance on the field.
Ohio State will need to keep pushing the pedal against the Fighting Illini if they want to come away with a win. But Smith's accomplishments so far in this game have been electric, giving the fans in Columbus something to seriously cheer about.
Smith is the best wide receiver in the country, and he is just showing off in this game against Illinois. Ohio State quarterback Julian Sayin has been feeing him the ball so far, and that is expected to continue as he tries to put up record numbers for the day.
The NCAA single-game record for most touchdowns in a game is seven, so Smith has some work to do. But anytime Smith gets doubted, he tends to prove everyone wrong.
If Ohio State were to come out and add more to the score in the third quarter, we could see Smith and other stars potentially sit in the fourth quarter. But this remains to be seen, and Illinois could come out with some halftime adjustments.
This team has slowed down Illinois's offense, making quick work of their opponents. But the Fighting Illini do have some players who can cause trouble as the game continues after halftime.
Ohio State has come out strong in the first game of Big Ten action, showing Illinois that they won't be pushed around. But there is still a lot of game left to go, and the Buckeyes need to make sure to put the Fighting Illini away quickly in the second half.
