Ohio State Buckeyes wide receiver Jeremiah Smith has proven to be one of the best players in college football and will be a major talking point for the 2027 NFL Draft.

Smith has the chance to go off the board very quickly in the draft, given how he has played during his career at Ohio State. In a recent ranking for the 2027 NFL Draft, Mel Kiper Jr. and Field Yates ranked Smith as the top receiver in the class.

Smith has been impactful since he first stepped on the field for the Buckeyes in his freshman season, as he had 76 receptions for 1,315 yards and 15 touchdowns, along with 47 yards and a touchdown on six carries.

He played well again in the 2025 season, earning All-American honors and finishing sixth in Heisman voting. Smith had 87 receptions for 1,243 yards and 12 touchdowns while rushing for 21 yards and a touchdown on three carries. 

In the 2026 season, Smith has played well in the first three games, with 21 receptions for 400 yards and three touchdowns. He could be even better for the remainder of the season, as he had some uncharacteristic drops in Week 2 against the Texas Longhorns.

The 20-year-old wideout is a Heisman contender and is setting records. Smith became Ohio State's all-time receiving-yards leader, and with plenty of the season left, he will shatter the record.

He is one of the best receiver prospects in recent memory and in Buckeyes history, despite the different talents they've developed over the years.

Ohio State has had some receivers go on to have great careers in the NFL in recent years, led by Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Smith-Njigba won the Offensive Player of the Year Award in the 2025 season and was a key piece for the Seattle Seahawks as they won the Super Bowl over the New England Patriots.

Emeka Egbuka has also played well, as he was a contender for the Offensive Rookie of the Year Award in 2025, catching 63 passes for 938 yards and six touchdowns.

Garrett Wilson and Chris Olave have also had successful careers after strong stints at Ohio State. However, despite all of these star receivers, Smith is the best of the bunch coming out of college and is destined to be one of the first players selected in the 2027 NFL Draft.
